BASS Nation Ohio Kayak Fishing Championship on Hoover Reservoir Ohio

I was lucky enough to qualify for the 2024 Ohio BASS Nation Kayak Championships (where the top 8 finishers then qualify to fish on Lake Fork for the BASS Kayak Championships at the Bassmaster Classic!) due to the anglers ahead of me on the list having prior obligations and I was thrilled to get the experience on an Ohio lake (Hoover Reservoir) that I hadn’t gotten to see yet. Hoover is really low right now and that left a lot of bare rocky shoreline to cover looking for a bite on a pressured lake. I ended up with one 17.25″ largemouth bass which put me finishing 19th/24 anglers.

  1. Just keep trying you'll get better at it! Hope to see you at the Fork! I placed third in the Colorado Bassmaster State Championship, so I'll be going to the tourney! It was a long time for me to finally win a place in a tournament. Couldn't have picked a better time for the win!

  2. I think most pros or seasoned anglers would say casting, the ability to put the lure where you want it and not where you don't. Is one of the variables you can influence that can really help propel you forward. 10 minutes a day will add up real quick. Remember you cast within inches, not feet. Back in my day the flippers would suggest you should be able to flip to a tea cup consistently. Start with a bucket, go to a can, go to a cup. I'd get one of those beach chairs that are a few inches off the ground to simulate casting from the Kayak. More unsolicited advise. You are working towards your goals. Stay proud of your self.

  3. It’s always so enjoyable to watch you share your tournament journey no matter what the outcome! We all have to start somewhere we cannot grow unless we start our journey and learn from our accomplishments and failures! I hope you get t your electronics figured out that seemed to be a thorn at your side all year round it never did work like they were supposed to! Next year is going to bring new fresh start for you have you heard of Wendell fishing he is an angler from Ohio and he has a lot of knowledge and experience check his channel out! Melissa you are such a beautiful soul innocent and care free and trying to learn to fish better keep your head up and keep pushing forward never give up you will get there! 2025 Let’s go tight lines take care and God bless!❤❤❤❤

  4. Nothing is more important then time on the water practicing those skills and reading the environment. Electronics are great and help tremendously but if you don’t have your experiences to reference it won’t mean much anyway. Keep getting out as much as you can and practice that’s how you will get where you want to be in this game.

  5. For next time your at Hoover you started in my favorite bay twin Bridges Bay there is places in there you can load the boat shame your depth finder didn’t work they should go back it’s loaded with big bass my favorite lake thank you😊
