Bass Fishing with a Spinning Reel and Wacky Rig (Senko)

Today I am doing more bass fishing with a spinning reel and a wacky rig senko. I typically cast with both hands and I am right handed in general. However, I am looking to become better at casting left handed. When I learned to fish, I was taught to reel with the hand that can reel the fastest, and that is my right hand by far. So why not learn to cast with my left hand too. I manage to catch two largemouth bass today on wacky rig senkos. I am happy with my opposite hand casting and I think this will help me become a more well rounded angler.

  1. I cast lefty all the time. But I am a lefty. Have I casted right handed? Maybe once or twice in my 40 years of existence! It's hard, but what I struggle with more than the cast is reeling with my left hand. That I'm no good at!

  2. When I was a young pup I saved my paper route money to buy a Mitchell 300. They only sold the righty version in my local tackle store so even though I'm a lefty I always reel in like a righty. Nobody ever told me that there was a left handed version (301) so I just learned to use it. I do switch hands to cast though. By the time the convertible reels came out and became mainstream I was so used to the way that I fished that I never changed. To me it feels natural and to try to fish by reeling with the right hand is too hard. I think when I bought my "dream reel" back in 1972 it was somewhere around $30.00 brand new and it came with a second spool. I still have it and I do bring it out at least once a year, kind of like an "old timers" day.

  3. That's a really good idea using the small black hair bands. Thanks Alex for the great idea. Your the man, realistically speaking. I've been watching your channel for a year now. Love your content. Very entertaining !!!

  4. Alex, I fish in very clear water ponds and have a hard time catching bass. What lure do you suggest? P.S. there are no shad in the pond so they won't bite any lure that looks like a shad.

  5. Had a friend at work tell me every 'good' fisherman casts with the opposite hand that he reels with.

And I was like yeah? … Except almost ALL professional fishermen! Anyway, it's good to be she to use both. But I feel like a weirdo reeling with my left hand.

  6. My greatest number of bass and my pb bass are both on wacky rigs. I've never seen anyone fish it like you but you were bringing em in lol. I usually let mine fall to the bottom, give it 2 pops and most of my bites come on the fall right after

  7. My wife got me a left handed baitcasting combo for Christmas, real nice set up, so I made my self use it, and now I'll go back and forth between left and right, fun video. Always enjoy
