Bass Fishing Newcastle Reservoir (June '24)

I’m just a normal guy that likes fishing, flying & fun. Love the Sasquatch lore, too! On this Tuesday’s fishing trip, I find myself at Newcastle Reservoir in Southern Utah. This lake has quickly become the most diverse fishery in the southern part of the state. Catchable species include Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Bass (Wipers), Green Sunfish, and Channel Catfish. The state DWR also recently stocked Black Crappie!

Water temperatures are in the lower 80s. Water clarity is a little murky with green algae. Weed growth on the eastern shore makes fishing tough. I recommend targeting the rocky shallows in early morning with small topwater lures for solid bass fishing. I’ve had the best luck fishing for wipers during lowlight hours or at night during a full moon. The trout population was hurt by low water drought conditions a few years back but will rebound.
