Welcome to my journey. This is Learning to Fish, Volume 4. I’m trying like hell to catch bass on a consistent basis and in order to do so, I must learn different techniques. We call them "trouble hooks" I use to grind the barbs off them with a Dremel tool. Easier to get the hooks out the fish but easier to loose a fish, especially if it's a "jumper". I don't fish winter but was wondering if you should be fishing deeper water? Maybe try a crank bait or a jerk bait? Also wondering if you had somewhere you could mount that ruler to where you don't have to "get it out" every time. May save you some time especially if in the tournament itself. Just some thoughts for you. Don't give up.
What you said about sticking with what "should be" working for way too long even though it clearly isn't… I can totally relate to that. But I can't relate to fishing in December! So at least you have that. Have you asked other fishermen how they've been doing? It might be well worth a trip to the local bait shop to ask around about what works for others at this time of year. Like I've commented before, back in October I talked to probably dozens of fishermen who all said the fish were just not biting. It might be the same kind of thing where you are. You could be outrageously lucky and the envy of everyone for the little luck you've had lately! It seems to me like you should ask around to clarify and sharpen your perspective.
