Bass fishing in the Philippines part 1

Went to Manila to attend a wedding, spent 2 days fishing in this lake. It’s a dam reservoir created in the 70s. Some people seeded large mouth bass in this lake some time ago and they have taken over the place.
I arrived later than originally planned thanks to Manila traffic. It was raining when i arrived but that wouldn’t stop me from fishing. At first I couldn’t get any strikes but thanks to Noli, my guide, I soon learned the technique, as he was hooking up non stop as soon as we started fishing.
This place is truly magical, unlike anything I’m used to since I’m an ocean kinda angler. Noli mentioned that it is peak season for bass fishing here and i came at a good time because it’s raining or cloudy and the sun isn’t to harsh.
By 4pm I was getting the hang of how to present the lure and time the strike I caught probably 1/3 of how many Noli did. He kept the fish that were gill or gut hooked as they would have died anyway; we released the others.

  1. I was happy to see that you can bass fish in the Phillipines. I may live there some day and am so happy I can go fishing. Can you keep them to eat if you wanted to? Do you need a license like in America?

  3. You should catch and release!!! Bass are a game fish and fun to catch. plenty of other fish to catch to eat. Dumb to eat a great sporting fish🙁

  4. Looks like you have light action rod. I fish largemouth bass too, I like Med-heavy for top water, heavy cover. Medium action for Texas rig or Carolina rig. You'll have a better hook set. Thanks for sharing, keep 'em coming.
