This video will help you choose the correct rod for frog fishing based on length, power/action, and where you fish!
Frog fishing can be frustrating for beginner bass anglers. However, I still see people who have many years of bass fishing experience struggle with topwater frogs. There is a lot of talk around FAST reels and HEAVY braid but what about rod selection? Many new anglers just take a reel with braid on it and put it on a rod…BOOM…FROG ROD. However, there is more to it than that.

I use a 7’3” heavy Fast action with 65lb braid and a 8.1:1 reel
Is there a choice that is most versatile? A setup that can do well frogging but also work for Texas rig worms or crankbaits? As a bank fisherman I’m trying to limit the number of rods I carry.
Love this. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend Got it a couple weeks ago hated having to wait almost 2 weeks to get it out fishing. This pole is one of our new catfish poles. It stood up quite well today. It casts great. It reels smoothly. The pole is easily collapsible. friend ended up catching only one fish because we didn't have too long to fish, and he reeled it in easily. Good buy. Hubby is happy so I am happy! Looking forward to warmer temps so we can spend more time playing with it!
My froggin setup
Rod: Googan Squad Muscle Rod 7’5 Heavy Power and Extra Fast Action
Reel: Souygayilang Green Baitcaster 8:0.1 Gear Ratio

Keep up the Great Content!

Excellent tips!
The Lighter or smaller the Frog it’s easier to cast on a longer or softer tip Rod.

Do you have a Frog Lure suggestion for a beginner? There are a Plethora of Frogs on Amazon..!!!
GREAT INFO !! THANKS !! Probably one of the best descriptions of "what frog rod is best to Use" for the 5' 6'' # HALF
AROOKIE weekday warrior like ME 🥸 recently purchased a BPS Bionic Blade 7' 6" Hvy.. for California Delta.. BUT… i just can't seem to work such ( for me) that long of a rod ,,it did cast the 65 lb braid pretty good but YA accuracy went out the window ,, listened to others and most said " you need a 7' 6'' min length 🤷♂ thought i'd use it for frogs and punching ,,, but found out I'd need to stand on a stool to properly use the dang pole vault of a rod,, LoL LoL….SO , after watching this and since i'm A VIP boat owner member and it was a recent purchase (YIKES over 60 days ago and still have the receipt and original paperwork) BPS has agreed to take it back / exchange it 👍👍 SO. i'll get something in a 7' hvy…. since I have 2 BPS 7' cranking Sticks and the 7' length feel pretty good 👌 HOOK.um UP 🤠Dear debo excellent explanation of these rods. Young man I'm almost 60 yrs old and I'm very impressed with your knowledge thank you so much for these videos on kast king rods. I've used very expensive rods and their just not worth it I'm sold on the kk rods.god bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike
Great explanation! Thank you!
I do not have a frog rod I have a couple of st croix mojo bass in medium and medium heavy fast action 7ft abu garcia revo sx baitcasters 6.4.1 and a 7.3.1 I am fishing a private lake in up state ny can I use the medium heavy rod and 7.3.1 baitcaster or should I go with heavy rod vegetation is Sami thick in spots clear water
Funny. Fly fishing is normally 9 ft rods. It is all relative
Very useful information as always for all of us inexperienced anglers who just want to have more fun and have better results..! Big thanks bro..! 🤙🏼🎣✨
I like ur information on frog, I'm learning how to use frogs, I'm just nervous about what rod to put it on, because I'm going to make it my permit frog rod, I'm open to any suggestions please! Thanks
Is a abu Garcia black max a good froggin and flippin reel? I’ve got a 7ft medium heavy rod for it but no reel to pair with it.
😅 I want a XXHeavy rod with Very Slow action. They don't sell them. 🙁
I'm 13 and my 7'6 is my favorite rod
Right now I'm just getting really adept at froggin and absolutely loving it. I have a medium heavy, extra fast tip 7'3" Powell Nusance rod. Supposed to be a jig, Texas rig, Carolina rig rod but it works perfectly with my KVD Poppin Perch. Abu Garcia Revo X baitcast 7.3:1 gear ratio with 65 pound braid spooled up on that. Caught my new PB yesterday with it, 5.25 pound Largemouth Bass. Whole rod and reel set up was a birthday/father's day gift from my parents and wife 😎
Iam looking for a rod to fit my Shimano Calcutta 200gtb!!!!!
Thanks for the explanation! I use two set ups for my frogs. One is an old green Curado that I had hot rodded and the drag updated to 20 pounds with carbon fiber and a little machining (yes, I spent too much lol). I use that on a castaway medium heavy skeleton rod with 30# power pro and I would say it’s more the ‘go to’ since it can handle almost any scenario, especially if I tie on a mono leader. The other set up I have is an older Citica with carbon drag, on a TFO heavy 7’3” and 40# power pro. With that setup, fishing from a kayak, if I get one of those impossible snags, I just have to cut the line because the rig is so strong that I can’t get enough leverage from a kayak to force it to release! SO, the TFO is not my favorite setup… Having said all that, I prefer a medium heavy fast action rod to give me a little extra leeway on setting the hook. That heavy TFO rod causes me to miss more fish because there’s just not enough give in there to overcome me setting the hook too early.
What rods would you recommend 7’4” heavy fast
Do you have any ideas on bfs equipment?
I realize this is very old, however I am contemplating a rod similar to this for tiger musky (using a specific approach that is very different from most musky guys') thoughts on the mojo bass series rods?
I just purchased a lews Mach 2 7 foot four combo heavy. And I had that in my head as that is going to be my frog and Rob I also have a Googan squad muscle rod that I’m going to put a SLXDC real on which one would you prefer to be a dedicated frogging rod Rod
great video
Hi sir! Love my Daiwa Tatula 7-4 frog rod. I use my heavy/fast frog rod for saltwater / pier fishing, because it's so light and I'm a little guy (5-8). I wanted something light, with lots of power so I could use 60-65 lb braided line with a Shimano TLD reel. It works great, just have to clean it really well after use in SW. I love this frog rod for saltwater angling! My personal preference.
Was using Flairs Flippin and Froggin Rod last year and got amazing hook sets, then it broke when I accidentally snagged it on a limb in my kayak. Picked up Dobyns Fury 735C Mag Heavy, and haven’t hooked a single frog yet. Every time I set the hook it comes flying out of the water. Not sure if it’s the rod, or maybe I’ve been watching too many videos about hooksets. I’ve been waiting longer to set the hook, whereas last year I just waited two seconds and whacked em. The Flairs was a mod fast. I may go back to that
