Bass Fishing: Best Baits For Fall Fishing

Look inside Matt’s day box at what he’s really using! There are no secrets, no hidden baits, these are the baits we’re taking to the lake to catch fish right now. From Shallow to deep, big to small, it all fits in a single Plano box.

Many anglers complicate their Fall bass fishing but it doesn’t have to be that way. With just a small handful of baits we’re able to cover virtually any circumstance that could arise. The real beauty of this box is that it will catch fish in almost any water temp, water clarity, and regardless of what sort of baitfish the bass are eating.

Do you have any favorite baits that aren’t in the box? Some would say the spinnerbait or chatter bait are missing (and they are) but for most Fall fishing conditions the Underspin, square bill, and lipless will fill the void.

Below is a breakdown of the baits in the box…

  1. Idk if anyone else commented this or not, I’m not reading 204 comments to find out… But I think it’s hilarious (in a good way) that you left the label on the front of the Plano tackle box, I peel that off before I put anything inside lol.

  2. Good one I was just planning my arsenal for the fall down here in Texas. You got some key approaches that I also use. "Rattletraps" doesnt really matter too much what kind gets great bite every fall. Are those spoons or slabs your using? I always bring my translucent spinnerbait but I add a fat colorado blade instead to slow that drop down. They like to hit it on the drop of those edges. Thanks for the insight, going to have to key in on that topwatet bite this year! Im super excited my favorite season coming up! Big Bass are gonna stock up for the cold !

  3. If bass are up shallow chasing bait this time of the year throw the whopper plopper. Match the hatch and hold on tight. Dont be scared to throw the bigger sizes either even the smaller one will kill it this time of year and the stock treble hooks are sticky enough to catch them even if they dont get it all the way in their mouth

  4. I love your videos, so much info and explained very well. You have helped me grow as a fisherman and led me to catch my PB LMB!!! The best part is i watech this video on 10/26/18 the day we had our baby and that night went out and got my PB!!! Credit to you 2, on the fish not the baby. Lol. Keep up the good work.

  5. Hey guys, can you help me understand what is the defining element for which season you are in. Specifically, how to know when you are in the fall transition, you are in fall fishing and you have entered winter fishing? I live in the NE and we are getting constant air temps in the 40s and 50s, which night times dropping to 30s, and I am still picking and choosing the days I can still get out on the water to fish, but I really want to know which time of year, bass season, I am fishing and the element that defines the transition into (and out of) each. Thanks, Nick

  6. Tactical Bassin is my favorite channel on YouTube! I have learned a ton and after watching so many videos on the Whopper Plopper I tried it. I caught my first bass on the 130 during a tournament on Kentucky Lake. I caught almost 20 lbs and won a nice check and trophy. Matt and Tim have inspired me to start uploading better content on my channel. Check it out and let me know what y'all think.

  7. Matt Allen I have soaked up your knowledge and wisdom like a sponge. I have followed a lot of your tips that work for me every time. Have you thought about book writing or expanded your teaching past tactical bassin?

  8. great job Matt, I would love if you could make a lake mead trip with me and show me some of your tricks. I have a 2018 z18 nitro and I am 56. Been fishing my whole life and love all your videos.

  9. People ask me all the time…”what are you catching them on?” And I always reply, “I watch Tactical Bassin. “ They look disappointed because I didn’t name a specific bait, but that’s because they don’t yet realize I just gave them gold. You guys not only tell us what baits work best according to season, you also show us how to use them. I fish high pressure bodies of water, and I almost never get skunked. This channel is a big reason why. Thank you for that.

  10. I have been fishing crankbaits a lot this fall and I do have to say the River2Sea Ish Monroe Biggie Smalls squarebills have been quite successful. I purchased a few from your recommendation on an older video and they have a somewhat tight wobble and they track better than any other crankbait I have ever used (I've tried quite a few). I have probably caught more fish with that lure than any other this year except maybe the Norman Fat Boy (with the blue top) which I've killed it on when they're actively chasing.

  11. I have a novice question about bass behavior: There's a little creek near home. It seems that once we had our first (and very mild at that!) cool front, all the (spotted) bass left. There are still lots of sunfish and shiners. Is this common of bass? I thought their cooler weather pattern would bring more to the shallow creek, and out of the deeper pools. Might it have more to do with the spawning of smaller species than the weather? I'm sorry if this is odd. I'll gladly clarify anything you want to know. I just started fishing this spring.

  12. Thank you so much, I’m gonna put in a order on TW now for a rover & a new shimano metanium! I love you guys, hope you all have a great day in the water! Much love from ARIZONA.
