Bass Fishing Alum Creek Lake with Ohio Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail

This weekend was the Ohio Kayak Fishing trail stop #2 at Alum Creek near Columbus, Ohio. I picked a ramp towards the upper end and rigged up to go shallow, slow, and finessey. I knew with the recent rains the incoming water would be muddy, but I did’t realize how muddy, and when the sun came up and I saw it was about 3-4 inches of visibility I debated moving to the lower end of the lake to find clearer water but I decided to stay and try to figure it out.

I caught one bass on a chatterbait in the morning and then nothing all day until with an hour left in the tournament I finally tried a spinnerbait with chartreuse painted blades and i caught 3 more (but lost one reeling in). I’m proud of myself for keeping on the grind through a cold, windy day with pouring rain and chocolate-milk water, and for finally (a little slow since it took me about 4 hours!) making the correct adjustment.

Congrats to Jason Isaacs for the win and good job to everyone who fought through the challenging conditions!
