Bass Boats Can't Go Here! Lake Chickamauga Kayak Bass Fishing!

We’re sneaking around the backwaters today to avoid boat traffic. With hundreds of boats on the water and fishing pressure at an all time high, its time to jump in the kayak. Why a kayak in such a big lake? We’re able to get into all the places the boats can’t go! Come along as Matt catches fish in backwater coves and pockets.

Today is all about finesse. Matt started off with a tiny underspin, a senko, and a shaky head, then added a dropshot to the mix as conditions dictated. There were a few prespawn fish around but the majority of these bass were spawning. Since he was using finesse tackle, Matt added some new rods into the mix as well. He tried out a new Halo KSII Elite, a Savage Gear Black Ops, and the new Ultegra spinning reel and had great success with all of them.

While we love fishing out of the bass boats and using all the modern electronic advantages, there is something very rewarding about getting on the water in a small craft, no electronics, and just going fishing. If you haven’t given kayak fishing a try, you really should. Below you’ll find links to all the gear, the baits, and the equipment Matt used today. We’ve included the exact models and specific colors Matt was using as well. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item, except for the kayak link which goes directly to the manufacturer.

  1. My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

  2. Kayak for the win!! Sweet setup man 😀
We just became the Chattanooga area's Hobie dealer (along with all the other top brands) and are looking become the go-to store for all things kayak fishing this year. Stop by sometime if you're in the Fort O area and check us out.

  3. What is the name of the stick you’re using to help you balance yourself? I am a bigger guy and have zero confidence in my equilibrium. I’m apprehensive about standing up in my kayak. Any info helps, thanks!

  4. Yes sir …. Love the kayak videos!!!! Love to bass fish and I love the knowledge bombs y’all drop. The truth is I will never drop 100k on a bass boat. Nothing wrong with that. In the past I have owned several boats. Kayak is just an awesome way to fish.

  5. Hey Matt: Any thoughts on the Savage Gear Spinning rods. You've had some nice things to say about their Casting gear and was wondering if you thought the same of their spinning gear. Thanks. Great Videos as always.

  6. That was such an awesome catch under that dock when you switched baits. You could have had that bass eating out of your hand I bet. Lol.

  7. I didn't know what I didn't know when I bought my kayak which sucks, because I pigeonholed myself into a less than desirable situation. I would love to see you talk about gear and technique best suited to kayak fishing. How do you handle a paddle and fish? It sucks. A pedal kayak would have been much better. Also, my kayak is just a little too small for me to stand up and fish, even though it is 12 feet and says fishing right on the side of it. What rod / reel facilitates casting from a sitting position? Light baitcasting or long spinning? I have a medium 6'6" bait caster that works great for hooking up Lake Havasu bass but is that the best combo? How do you cast overhead with a bait caster? Can you cast overhead? You guys probably have no desire to put yourself through such misery, but please offer some thoughts. BTW love your cannel.

  8. It's always so weird seeing different bass from different parts of the country. Like every video I'm always thinking the bass look weird compared to the ones I catch

  9. Hey man! I definitely like being able to see your hands as you fish! What you're doing with retrieval and everything really has been helping me! Appreciate the hard work for us all 💪🎣💯👍

  10. You should get the minn Kota puck so you can utilize the jog spot lock feature. It’s amazing and so helpful move in 5 ft increments with each tap of the button (3 taps =15 ft)
