Bass fishing in May can feel impossible when bass are everywhere but you can’t seem to find or catch them consistently, and if you’ve struggled during the post spawn, shad spawn, or bluegill spawn this is exactly what you need to fix it. This is one of the toughest times of year for bass fishing because fish are constantly moving between shallow cover, spawning areas, and offshore structure, making it hard to establish a reliable pattern. The key is understanding where bass are positioning and how to adjust your approach, and that’s where baits like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater lures, glide baits, and especially a soft jerkbait like the 5 inch Whiplash Shad come into play to cover water and trigger reaction strikes. Whether you’re fishing lakes, ponds, reservoirs, or rivers, these proven May bass fishing patterns will help you locate fish faster and catch more bass during this transition period. If you want to consistently catch bass in May, you need to understand how to adapt to changing conditions, follow bait movement, and use the right techniques to turn scattered fish into a predictable bite.

Alright Geeks… be honest 👇
In May are you catching most of your bass SHALLOW or DEEP right now? 🤔
I’ve seen them doing BOTH and that’s what messes people up…
Drop yours below ⬇
#100percentwatchsquad
Tough to beat topwater !! Great stuff Hank #100PWS
the nickel spinnerbait is magic shad color, correct
Good stuff BG! As soon as this snow melts I’ll be back out there doing my best to find a bite. Godspeed
What’s the best way to rig a soft jerk bait for bank fishing?
Shallow mostly, in between spots I like to fish deep. Just thoroughly covering water.
For some reason I can not buy a bite on a Rico popper. Tie on an ol Rebel and they line up to get in the boat, I do swap out hooks for VMC Stingers. Not sure what I’m doing differently.
I didn’t know they still made the CHA CHA glide, good to know. Thank you
Here in Massachusetts, during this time from the banks, I always try shallow and deep wherever I go. Sometimes there further out and sometimes there shallow. Just caught a monster 5+ lber with my kids over the weekend. She had to be 20-25ft away from the shoreline.
Im with you brother my favorite is top water 🎣🔥

Here in Virginia we are post spawn and have moved back to the summer home in deeper water. Yesterday I got my first bite ever on a worm on it's first fall. Exciting. Red craw is a winner for me bank fishing a pond.
Hey Hank, I pulled the trigger on the Rio Rico popper last year & it didn’t take long to beat the ever living paint off that thing. My other go too’s are the war eagle spinner, bandit 100, zoom fluke & a damiki armor shad on an underspin. Love your list👊
#100%watchsquad. 👍
Thanks Hank. Great list of lures. Love the old poppers
Out here in California water temps low 70s. Post spawn. Cranking bite is on.
Getting them shallow plus Rocking em on top. Awesome video as always. #100WS. You Rock
Thank you for the tips and to be honest right now anything they are willing to bite
