Bass and the FULL MOON (Don’t believe the HYPE)

Find me a rule in bass fishing and I can find you the exception. Be careful following these so called rules in fishing. They can lead you a stay at times and have you with a big fat zero at the end of the day.

  1. I agree on the shallower part also but I was practicing last year at lay lake in Alabama. I was there for 3 days and on the last day during a new moon they pulled up. This was the second or third week of March. Water temps were around 61-62 if i remember correctly.

  2. I have found I catch more and bigger fish at night during a full moon. As far as the spawn goes there has been a ton of studies that go both ways but I could see in my limited amount of knowledge how it would makes sense for fish to spawn during the full moon because they can see bed robbers better at night but that don’t mean it is true.

  3. In my 50 years on the water, I truly believe the moon has an influence. However it doesn't have to be full. Yet nature has many variables. Aside from the spawn, I have caught more big fish around the full phase and the weather is favorable. It can boost the anglers confidence for sure.

  4. I love proving the old sayings wrong. My dad thinks it’s impossible to kill a deer when it’s windy for some reason idk why. So I go hunting on all the windy days just to prove him wrong. And I’ve killed and seen so many big bucks on windy days. Still can’t convince him. 🤣

  5. Good topic. I dont think there are any absolutes in fishing. Ive caught too many fish that weren't where they were supposed to be. There are, for sure, things that make the odds better or worse. Also, as nature runs its course, and fish continue to adapt, some things will work that didnt before and vice versa. All of that is why i love fishing. You can learn forever.

  6. It's the cycle that the full moon has that occurs. The length of days, water temp all add up to crayfish becoming active pulling bass shallow. The length of days control more than anything else, that's why every year the bite happens at the same time regardless of air temp.

  7. I think fish feed mostly at night, and better under a full moon. The combination of a full moon (more light), and warming water temps in the early part of the year keeps them shallow longer and makes the bite better.

  8. I agree with almost everything you said. The full moon night is better for night fishing but the couple days before and after it is slow but as far as spawn… too many variables for the moon to be the biggest factor.

  9. I have always been told if cows are laying down fishing will be tough, because animals are not feeding, if the cows are up feeding. The fish are feeding. It will be a good day. What is your opinion? I never bought into the moon thing. I do just out of curiosity look as I go by the farms to see what the cows are doing.

  10. I don't know if I believe in the full moon thing. It might have something to do with the spawn but I think fish keep their own schedule. Personally I bounce from looking shallow to secondary points to main lake points to gauge their movement and try to physically follow them in to the banks. The biggest thing I do is just go look for bedding fish. If I can't find many then chances are they haven't made that push. That said something I learned from this weekend watching the Elites fish is if the water temps are right they will move shallow but not to the bank. They just suspend high in the water column which I found kind of interesting.

  11. This is what I've found in 30 years of tournaments, our club schedules every tournament on a full moon, the day tournaments usually suck, but the night tournaments are good. Weights have shown me that a group of decent anglers catch less weight in day tournaments on a full but have great weights at night

  12. I think they drop eggs at night, or right at day break, but I don’t think it has much to do with the moon when it specifically comes to dropping eggs. The best guy that I can think of for so-lunar stuff on fishing is Bobby Barrack. He’s talked a little about it, but has held back a little. Having him on your live stream would be awesome. Ish knows him, please get Ish to hook it up.

Edit: Todd, I completely agree with picking and choosing (cherry picking) subjective and irrelevant things to formulate an opinion. Like most of your videos, you hit the nail on the head with this video. I don’t get how people misunderstand your points on so many videos.

  13. Solunarity, as a paradigm never passes a legitimate scientific control. In fact, most of the Sun/Moon phase tables start with the "3 days either side of a new or full moon". Using that as a "metric" you just included 14 out of the usual 30 days in an average month. Almost 50% of the time in any given period is supposedly a prime time for catching bass. How the hell is that a precise metric? Somewhat tangential, but Rick Clunn is famous for saying that we spent all our time studying the "cat" when we really should have been studying the "mouse". Nowhere is that more true than for pelagic fish.

  14. There’s more. Factors than just moon. Fishing ??? Exceptions to all rules. I’m from Minnesota and I’ve learned that there’s factors on walleyes moving on the pretty much same time every year. Hours of daylight 🤔. Angle strength of the sun🤔. The full moon. Which seems to me is a factor on walleye moving. Granted. Walleye ain’t Bass. Minnesota DNR. I think uses moon faze when they go do egg sacking big females for the hatchery Just saying. ((. But I love your approach of just go fishing and figuring out what’s going on at that time. Make 💰💰???? Gotta make it work. 💪💪

  15. I agree with most of your assessment… especially on the spawn. Totally photoperiod, water temp, and weather stability. However, I do find a correlation between the moon overhead/underfoot on a daily basis affecting feeding windows. Just my 2 cents, fwiw.

  16. They were doing their thing at the end of Saturday and on Sunday in the Elites, not the full wave as it is still early in Texas but Chris Johnston was sure bedfishing. Moon or not, they moved up. The bite windows were opposite the height of the moon for example this weekend.

  17. I've noticed some bucks up shallow not all but a few more here and there but them fatties I feel they are thinking on it and moving slow and easy towards more shallow areas. Awesome topic 💪 🔨
