My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. in no particular order:

Senko 5" in black/blue laminate, Texas rigged

    Rapala DT6 in bluegill

BOSS Swim jig head, 3/8 ounce, Baby Paca Craw, black/blue live rubber skirt

Jack Hammer chatterbait, spunk shad trailer, bluegill colors or black/blue

    Berkley Warpig 1/2 ounce

  2. If terminal tackle is not restricted, your Queentackle vibrating jig blade would work great on the swimjig. As well as an inline spinner a la Snagless Sally, a bit of a cheat I know. I was surprised about the fluke, but it replaces the jerkbait with your Core tackle jighead so FFS is no problem. If you can have both half and quarter ounce lipless, you are pretty well covered. Maybe even attach the fluke or Keitech to the back of the half ounce lipless, wow new lure, I will have to test that one. Good subject.

  3. I get your reasons for all your picks, but I’m shocked you didn’t include a top water of some sort.
It’s tough to pick just 5 but here we go.
    1) 4 1/2” 6th sense whale in sun gill color. Pec. fins trimmed.
    2) 7” ribbon tail worm. Green pumpkin or watermelon with red flake.
    3) lipless crank bait in golden shiner or bluegill.
    4) spinner bait. White/char.
    5) gotta have top water, but since I can only have one I’m taking a popping frog.

  4. 1)5 inch senko in june bug.
    2)Mini max chatterbait in bluegill.
3)Fritts flat side in Tennessee shad.
4)3 inch Swimbait in a shad pattern.
5)Some type of soft craw plastic in green pumpkin.

  5. Thanx Matt,
    1) 7" power worm blue fleck
    2) 1/2oz green pumpkin Jackhammer
    3) 1/2oz Megabass SV-3 AYU spinnerbait
    4)Stike King Blue Craw Ragebug
    5) 1/4 oz bluegill swimjig
I know the stickbait gets more bits than any soft plastic but that and a drop-shot put me to sleep. I have to fish what I enjoy fishing or why go.

  6. Cotton Cordell in the late 70's was the largest lure manufacture in the world. A reporter once asked him with all the variety of lures you sell, if you could only take one lure fishing which would it be. Without hesitation he said his blade bait. I have to agree, its extremely versatile.

  7. 100% agree with all those choices except the last one sort of … classic Rat-L-Trap lipless needs to be #5. These 5 baits have dedicated rods on my boat. Since I picked out these 5 prior to watching to the just to see and scored 100% I guess I'm on the way to being a pro fisherman … NOT! …😬👽

  8. This is a fun topic! Here are mine:
    1) Zoom Super Fluke
    2) 3/8 Beast Coast Lil Magnum jig with a Zoom Super Chunk
    3) 7" Berkley Power Worm
    4) 1.5 Bill Lewis ATV squarebill
    5) 3/8 Booyah Covert Spinnerbait (Willow/Colorado blades)
It's very hard to leave out the Berkley Pit Boss, but I felt the Power worm would give me more versatility and I've caught fish on that worm for 30 years.

  9. Excellent topic. Hard to argue with your choices. Your videos are a solid blend of knowledge, experience and angler passion. Could this list be more than 5? There are so many variables to consider when choosing a bait. I'd like to hear your top 3 for each phase/season of the year. Thanks for another fine video

  10. For bass, easy. OG stickybait Senko, CA worm, Zoomy fluke, Baby Brushhogger, and finessy swimmybait, but your fans love to counter me. I don't know why they get butthurted so easy when I teach them the best. Hardbaits cannot make the list bc they're not versatile. Jigs tend to do the same as plastics at the bottom and anywhere else. Jigs are overpriced and they get lost after a few casts in Commiefornia. You right about the two hardbaits, but they wouldn't make the list of all time, even though I don't care for all time lures. They make fishing too easy and boring. I like easy, but with hard lures. Anyone can catch fish with plastics, but again, your fans say I am a legend to myself.

  11. As a shore fisherman I find the lipless to be my go to. I can cover lots of water with it. Seems to work best for me when I burn it past weed lines. They hit it like they are mad at it. From the California Delta to small lakes/ponds.

  12. These videos are interesting and Matt does a good job but keep in mind it's all about selling baits for the sponsors. The key to success is not the bait but variables like depth, presentation, retrieve, etc.

  13. I mentioned this before, but thought I would again, so you'd have a little time to think about it.(Won't work on the ice…) I've always been amazed when I watch you fish at how easily and accurately you cast. If presentation is a key to catching fish, I'd like to see you do a little tutorial on casting, with both spinning and baitcasters. I've been fishing for 55 years, and I could still use some improvement in that area…..

  14. I'm pretty basic old-school when I go fishing, which is rarely in recent years, and still way behind the curve of what people do today. Deep diving crankbaits, Texas rig worms, lipless cranks, spinnerbaiits, and smaller topwaters like the old Excaliber that I like to use with different retrieves. I need to learn how to use jerk baits, swimbaits, chatterbaits and of course all the Core Tackle rigs. I'm gonna work on that this year, even if only from the bank.
