Today we ask the all-important question: What makes a bass fishing lure retro? According to Merriam-Webster, the meaning of RETRO is relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past: fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned. Must retro lures old? Must retro lures discontinued? Must retro lures rare? Must retro lures be from the classic lure companies like Creek Chub, Shakespeare, South Bend, Paw Paw, and Heddon? Yes and no! I'm 59 and a Jitterbug gives me some of my oldest and best early fishing memories. Still made and still catchin them.
Nice spoon luer ๐ฃ๐ซถ๐ผ
Couldnโt agree more !! Great stuff Chris
I think retro is a state of mind. For some it can actually depend on the person's age. What to me is retro is 1980s lures and such. But some guys who are older see some 1950s lures as retro. Either way, the term resonates with a great day of fishing and a fish that got caught that day. Regardless of brand and style! Thanks Chris! Great vid! ๐ฃ๐ค โ๏ธ๐
Yup, I think you nailed it, Chris.
It was a great video but always enjoy your videos as well do you remember the banjo minnow n the pocket fisherman
Itโs only retro if itโs appeared on Retro Bassin!
Them daredevles are pickerel slayers .I swap out the treble and use a single hook with bucktail
I am going to go with discontinued and either bought out by a bigger company and the manufacturing process and finish changed from the original series.
But, a lot of today's lures can trace back to the ideas that were considered retro today, the spoon was a good example, still around, still catching fish but manufacturing and variety has changed
In Australia, we didn't have the range of the US, but even here we saw lures change and become unavailable once manufacturing changed and more imports became available
Nailed it Chris.

100% Chris! Great video!
Although some of the old school names maybe forgotten the memory of the baits live just in modern day styles
I'm 62 and I consider a lure " retro " is if its a certain lure and/or color that I used foutry years ago, especially if it's been discontinued.
Nailed it! It's what's Retro from your life!๐ค . Funny though – started fishing lures to pass a scout merit badge back in 1970 . Did it with a daredevil imp and a mepps spinner! Some stuff is timeless ๐ค
I would love to see you do a demonstration of the slope nose!
