Acton Lake Hueston Woods Kayak Bass Fishing with Cincinnati Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail

On this beautiful 98 degree Ohio summer day, I fished a Cincinnati Kayak Fishing tournament on Acton Lake in Hueston Woods State Park near Oxford, Ohio. I decided that my plan was going to be going up one of the creeks feeding into the lake and try to find some current and some shade that might be holding bass. The bummer of the day was the lake was under an e-coli warning for high levels of fecal bacteria, so no matter how hot I got I couldn’t use the water to cool down!

After 5 years of tournament fishing I had my first glitch with the TourneyX app that we use in kayak fishing when I was unable to get into the tournament to submit fish and we couldn’t get it figured out until after the tournament at 4pm at which point the TD had me email the fish photos and he submitted manually. The owner/creator of the app called me to diagnose the issue and we figured out it was because of a lack of cell service my phone had never let the app know I was there so the tournament never “activated”.

Thank you to Dwayne from TourneyX and everyone involved in running the tournament with Cincinnati Kayak Fishing for working around this glitch and getting my fish counted! I had just promised last week that from now on I would have a better more positive attitude when things didn’t go my way in fishing, and I thought it was pretty funny of the universe to throw this situation at me literally the next weekend.

  1. Good job. You beat 2/3 of the field in the tournament. The mornings on the water are the best. I always enjoy the sun coming up on the lake or river.

  2. damn not that i know this body of water but seeing that water up in those limbs is crazy

good to hear youโ€™re working on putting so much pressure on yourself it is very disheartening to hear you beat yourself up youโ€™re an awesome angler

A very nice relaxing video! You caught some nice fish there. Congrats on the 11 spot! Great job Lady! All you can do is keep getting better out there. I'm looking forward to the next video.

  4. You've gotten a lot better over the last year, from catching no fish to catching the limit plus a few. You a struggled a lot with electronics lately, can't help you with that from afar, but I will say that I run my Garmin Echomap 9sv on a 20 amp lith battery and according to specs it should be good for at least 10 hours and it's less than 5 pounds. Might be an option to control your weight problem.

  5. You are getting limits, you are upgrading fish, you are trying different baits. You are doing everything right keep doing this and the consistency is going to pay off in the points standings for AOY.

  6. Technology has it out for you! Great job in the tourney. Keep on plugging along. Remember to always have fun and keep it about the fishing and not really the outcome-especially in terms of placement. I am sure there are or have been people who, despite their success, are still unhappy with their results. That's no good.

  7. Curious, did u use any other baits after u caught the limit? I'd strongly consider having some bigger baits always handy…While of course u can catch a 3-4+ on a senko & ned rig….the saying is very true…Big baits=Big fish….Since I've started throwing bigger baits & even some REALLY big baits, I've caught so many bass between 4-7 lbs, including 1 that appeared a little bigger that snapped my braid doing a serious nose dive under the kayak..that no stretch can be a major con in the right situation….I'm convinced bigger bass would rather have a big meal, than spend more energy on multiple snacks….a 7" Googan Dart soft jerkbait has caught me quite a few over 5 lbs…great bait to always have on your yak

  8. I love your turnaround from last tourney. I am curious if you would be interested in trying a new technique, I make some wakebaits that are super user friendly and catch a ton of fish. I have won tournaments here in Maine on this bait would like to share its magic with you. I do not reach out to people to share this bait but I am a teacher/coach at heart and you are a student athlete hungry for victory. If you are interested I wonโ€™t charge anything and want nothing in return, I just hope it might give an honest review. This seems a little weird I am sorry but I donโ€™t know how else to do this . If you have a preferred way of communicating please let me know, I have email Facebook and instagram.

  9. Melissa thank you for sharing your day great job even with a little drama life still finds a way to push you through and place you very well in your tournament! Congratulations you did awesome in the last two events I see confidence, confidence and confidence the ingredients of a successful angler!
