This is nothing new, Randy. They have had tournaments during the spawn forever. So you are ok with sight fishing for these bedding fish, but to hell with using FFS to catch bedding fish. What you should be bitching about is the whole 5 fishing weigh-in tournament fishing. Everyone should be doing is catch weigh and release.

Bass should be protected during the spawn obviously ,im wondering when BASS is just gonna start giving em 5 sticks of dynamite obviously the main focus is the MONEY, not the fish .
Does not matter what anyone did a year or more ago. What matters is going forward. If you fish in the spring your likely to catch spawning bass. Trying to entice a visible to the human eye bass is one thing, using high end electronics is like being a sniper. I also feel that Bassmaster should be 100% immediate weigh & release for all of its tournaments. Keeping a large female fish for hours in a live well is not good. We can do better!

East Tn fishermen here. I’m a local tournament fisherman on South Holston, Boone and Watauga. I also fish Cherokee and Douglas on occasion. I have personally seen the effects of ffs on these lakes. This is surly gonna take its toll on all lakes I’m afraid.
I’m boycotting B.A.S.S. so no I didn’t watch. Only thing I saw was a video of Kyle Welcher catching a 10 pounder.
Forward facing sonar saves money. Now you don’t have to run all over the lake. Just drop your trolling motor and go scoping. It’s get your bag limit quickly and back to the house to enjoy a nice fish fry.

Ban tourneys held during the spawn. Sight fishing with or without FFS should be banned. You are blaming FFS for something you participate in sight fishing. Same thing happens without FFS.

Being an ex-resident of Elizabeth City and an avid angler of the Pasquotank River it really made me sick at what they were doing. I don't like FFS anyway but this just really hit home for me. Couldn't believe it!!!

I totally agree with you Randy. Absolutely should not have tournaments during the spawn. Death rate percentage of bass caught then released after weigh in is extremely high. Surely, with the technology we have now, we can come up with a way to measure and weigh the fish and then immediately release. This would tremendously help survival rate. Tournaments should be the biggest advocate for our fisheries. But obviously, by their lack of self governance, they are not.
FFS should be eliminated from tournaments. If not completely outlawed.

Bass tournaments are a joke, and killing bass fishing , Putting Fish in live wells and running around all day with your hair on fire around the lake while that Fish is bouncing around and in a livewell, That’s not fishing and that goes for site fishing as well

Randy, you are absolutely correct. This is ridiculous for them to jerk bedding fish off their beds, run them across the lake to show them off is disgusting. Not only do they never return to their beds but the mortality rate for these fish isn’t good.

Kyle Welcher did pretty good at it today, 15 fish/90 pounds over 3 days is the reason. Good viewership for BASS. Not a good look for me.

FFS to catch the deeper spawning bass! This is sad because the deeper spawning fish used to never get touched and had a high success rate reproducing. Seems like no bass is safe anymore. So so sad for bass fishing?

Spring fishing, in general, is no different than hunting various animals in the rut or turkeys during their spring mating season. In a league that allows unlimited use of FFS, kudos to the guys that can use it to that extent to put 30 pound bags on the scales.
