Fish hate the sun and strong light for a few reasons and in this video I can prove it. The first one and I’m not totally on board with it is that the bass’ eye is not able to tolerate light very well and avoids it due to the fact that it actually strains the fish’s eye. The other reason and this is the boat I’m inis that low light especially in ultra clear water allows the fish to fully perform as a predator – hiding in shady areas and surprising forage like shad and bluegill from ambush points. Key baits for fishing the Lake Pickwick spillway was a finesse jig with a small creature bait on a 7’3″ MH fishing rod and 15lbs flourocarbon fishing line. Jig fishing on the bottom in current whether it’s a creek or a river is super productive – just look for places where the current is less or where there’s an eddie. Since fish hate the sun always remember to look for low light fishing opportunities – sunest, shade, cloudy days, docks – basically any kind of cover that provides a block for the sun.
