The Journey For Protea Bass Fishing Colours Has Started | Loskop Dam

The season for divisional’s bass fishing in South Africa has started. First stop for the season is Loskop Dam, Land Of The Giants!!!

Divisional’s bass fishing in South Africa is bass fishing for a province with in South Africa.
For the season you battle it out again other anglers with in your province to get the correct amount of point to qualify for Inter provincials which is at the end of the divisional’s season.

This mission in my life has pushed me towards this journey to receive my Protea Colours in Bass Fishing. For many years I have bass fishing socially and I have been fishing Anglers 4 Anglers. This wasn’t enough for me. This mission in life is to up my game as an angler.

Loskop Dam in South Africa truly has the biggest bass I have ever seen. The South Africa record Bass has been caught in this dam weighing in at Kg 7,192 a true giant to show case what Loskop Dam has to offer.

Divisional competitions are two day fishing competitions which are on Saturday and on Sunday. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to fish Saturday due to family responsibilities. I still had Sunday to make up some ground to catch some of those giants swimming around.

The wind this time of year in South Africa is a common occurrence. This is normal but it does frustrate the anglers including me. The wind was at a high of 30Km and gusts up to 50Km on the sunday, making this a tough day being on the boat.

The journey started early on Sunday morning, blasting off last out of the pack of boat. Getting to my first spot on the dam, having to share the area with two other anglers. This meant having to fish the areas that are third best with in that area. After throwing lures that got bites during the practice, I decided to pack up the rods and head over to the second spot that I had in mind.

The point out side of croc bay was a very productive spot for me during practice and I new I would catch some bass. Fishing the point for a little while throwing lures like the Drop Shot, JerkBait and Underspin I decided to give the Wacky Rig a shot. This work really well landing two bass in a space of 20 minutes apart.

After fishing the spot I headed to a spot outside of Butterfly bay and I throw that wacky rig right up again the bluff wall hopping a big bass was sitting in one of the cracks in the wall. This was unsuccessful.

Moving from spot to spot I finally got my third bass on the boat.

Battling the wind throw the corse of the day was tiring me out and I was at the point where I was going to give up and go home. I told myself just to push on and continue to fish.
This paid of with me landing my two last bass with gave me limit of 5 total bass.

After a long day of fighting the wind and trying to get those bigger bass to bite it was time to get off the water. At the end of the day I weighed In Kg 4,74 in total which was a great achievement in my eyes. Getting a full limit was great.

All in All a great start to my first Divisional’s competition for the season.
