All my attention today is on the Toyota Series. To me it’s the best trail going! It’s grass roots fishing without all the drama.
There is plenty of money in BASS fishing. The problem is there are 3 professional leagues. There must be a merger of leagues, or the fisherman must participate in more tournaments. 9 per year isn't enough to make a living.
Hey Steve. This is a tough nut to crack, as the higher end anglers did not pay entry fees as far as I know. So, not paying the fee means little to them as the sponsors are not going to just give the anglers 45K just for good measure.
Now, the lower end anglers will see a benefit from not paying their own fees.
There is a difference between paying your expenses and making a living. I saw Greg Hackney talk on the Dave Mercer podcast. Now I looked into winnings in 2024 and it comes to about 26K and after removing the 45K in entry fees, but in 2025 with the same finishes and no entry fees he would of made 22K roughly. Neither one of these results is what I would consider a living. Only though sponsorship are they able to make a living whether there is a entry fee or not. Unless you win a event or stay in the top 10 all season, you are really going to struggle. So you really have to have all your ducks in a row.
I believe your right about some of the anglers only doing one season if there losses are to great.
This season is going to be an emotional roller-coaster.
Tight lines.
Regards, Steven.
Hard for the top half of the field to get a check without the bottom half donors.
I believe BASS will change this before the season starts. There is way to much uproar by the anglers. This was done without much thought. But what has BASS done with thought. There will be more older guys retiring or going somewhere else. Looks like BASS don't really care. I won't watch much of it anyway they have put a bad taste in my mouth.
The cream will rise to the top. I 've watched and followed BASS From the early 70s and have always believed they should have cut the field to 80 or even 70. I don't believe
that anyone finishing constantly on the bottom of the field isn't a Pro, semi pro maybe but after a few years and he hasn't shown any progress he should be cut just like any other sport. A pro to me is constantly in the top 20 or so. The rest of the field to me are just hangers-Ons. As for FFS get rid of it. It doesn't belong in pro fishing and if you can't fish without it than find a new hobby. (JMHO) and at 87 yrs old I'm too old change
I'm one of the 80%. LOL!!! A majority of the angler's on tour have a business and use their expenses as a tax right off. I will not be watching at all because they only focus on certain anglers during the live broadcast, even if the angler is not even close to winning the tournament. BORING!!!!
Professional Bass fishing is a sales job as much or more than it is a competitive sport. Most of the successful pro anglers in history are also some of the most charismatic and well spoken personalities the sport has seen. We don’t have as much of that today.
Steve, Think it's closer to 5,000. Just seeing, what I pay, for 2 tournaments a month every month. That's 1805 a month, 375 truck, 200 truck insurance, 100, boat insurance 500 boat 400 gas, ethanol free for boat, 100 food includes practice, 80 entry, 50 tackle etc.All my tournaments are at 1 to 2 hours away, in Florida. Gas doesn't include practice, and I have no sponsors, rarely are the payouts, beyond 5 places, most are 3. Just enjoy competitive fishing, Golf isn't any cheaper. Forgot, yearly Maintenace, personal liability insurance, tolls, some ramp fee's, licenses. Want to buy a boat, and 35 rods and reels? I started fishing tournaments in 89, with my son 7. We are still fishing, together. When he's unable to fish, my wife substitutes.
I’ll never understand why people can’t click one button.. (follow button) it literally takes less than 2 secs!!
Gas will be the biggest expense – first from their home to the event lodging…how many stops to fill the tank with gas prices changing state to state. Then there is filling up the boat each day where some events you run a LOT and others maybe you have gas left over. Guys pretty much HAVE to make the cut the majority of the time – if you fish day 1/2 and go home you are losing $$
I said it before. This is how BASS cuts the field without having to do the cutting. These guys have a tough row to hoe.
No interest in BASS for 2025! The Scopemasters Sportmans Society can do its thing without my viewership! 👍🏻
Best rookie class, to me, deserves an asterisk!
As long as they have ffs
Crazy how a no entry fee format totally F’d over the majority of the Pro anglers! Bottom line is get a solid job and fish more of a regional vibe! Pro bass fishing is NOT a pro sport! Change my mind! Lol
When will we know who is all fishing the 2025 elites?
