  1. The total payouts in 25 will be less than half of what they were in 24. 20th place will be break even and to actually make any decent money you would have to be near the top 5 or so.

  2. I was wondering why wouldn't the sponsors just give that money to the angler rather than the fishing organization? But then I realized, and randy misspoke, B.A.S.S. is a non-profit organization. So Sponsors can pay for entry fees and use it as a tax break. SO, if they can't get that tax break they will not likely be willing to get off their pocket book to pay the angler.

  3. I think your logic only applies to a very small % of the anglers these days sadly. Sponsors are doing less and less for the anglers since the rise of social media. This is a win for many, more so for Anglers with 10 years or less experience on the elites without the legacy sponsor deals, and certainly a huge win for the rookies who grinded their way to the elites starting with limited support. Anglers can now fish with less bottom line expenses and can promote their own brands in parallel. Seems like a win/win to me.

  4. Here's my take. Because there was so many complaints about high entry fees, they dropped them completely. This obviously affects the size of the payouts as can be seen. In the old version more than half the guys were in the red relative to winnings and expenses and losing money. That will remain the same and likely get worse. I communicated on YT with a pro who said his motivation to fish professionally was his love of fishing and desire to compete. Competition was an addiction to him. It was his dream. His winnings covered about half his expenses. I'd assume his wife has a job. I don't believe most of these guys are rich. It seems high level bass fishing is at a cross roads for survival. There isn't enough money in sponsorships to sustain the sport. There are not enough eyes on the sport for a sponsor to be interested in. Compare fishing to golf. Many more people like golf and it works on TV. Is it a bad thing if in the end, professional fishing can't provide a comfortable living for most all the participants? It's sad but I'm okay with that.
Finally, can the fishing industry companies just choose and pay a few pros a living salary to compete? If that is the old sponsorship model then okay. But if not, the winnings would come on top of a decent salary. And the cherry on the top is for those individuals who are consistently at the top. The others can go back to the local competitive circuits if not bass clubs. This may be the beginning of the end of the BASS model for professional fishing.

  5. Are you never happy? You just flat out bitch about everything – the payouts go down but they are 45K ahead to start the season!!! The anglers will re-negioate thier sponsers money

  6. Randy how short everyone's memory is. When the BPT did this in their first couple of seasons I remember hearing pros on podcasts saying sponsors started cutting back on deals especially boat deals and the excuse was since the entry fees were waived they shouldn't have to pay out as much in sponsor dollars. At least the BPT had a decent payout down thru the field (hindsight that was unsustainable) but at least the anglers were able to recoup a decent amount of their expenses with those winnings. Let's all revisit this at the end of 2025 and I'm sure it won't be as rosey as everyone thinks it is today

  7. My opinion. No entry fees for the elite series won’t affect 99% of people commenting, including me so honestly, who gives a s—t! I’m going to go bass fishing because I love it and not pay any entry fees.
