Won a club tournament in Ocala Fl with a 12ft Sears leaking jon boat 21 years ago. One 2 lb bass. It was 17 degrees outside. One little bite all day in a canal behind the ramp. Felt like i won bassmaster classic. Lol
Randy, one correction: you've been fishing for money for many years, not fishing as a professional. You don't understand the meaning of professional, which is not surprising given how you've spent your time during your lifetime. The only good part of fishing tournaments is keeping the "pro fishermen" who are all lying thugs, off the streets and occupied for a few days. The bad parts are too numerous to list here. Force the worthless thugs to get real jobs and we'll all be better off. Fishing is a hobby for men, not a "profession."
Then why do you still tournament fish? We can't have it both ways.
My observation is that fewer people are out fishing with children in 2-3 generation fishing outings. The bass fishing ideal advanced by tournament culture is two guys in a speed boat with children more a bother than the center of attention. I'd like to see a cultural shift in bass fishing which makes more room for family recreation and fun.
I’ve read all comments so far today. Just my 2$ worth needs to get back to skill. Tks for reading. Tight lines & memories
I remember the "catch and release" from the 70's (yea I was young) and remember others promoting it and I have stuck with this ever since. Occasionally I may keep a few (mainly in Canada) but I even limit the bag limits that are allowed. Correct me if I am wrong but there were some tournaments that were actually doing the "catch, weigh and release" thing and to me I thought this was a great idea. I remember Al Linder even commenting on this saying that this is what needs to happen in regards to tournaments. This should be the standard for all tournaments and tournament organizers need to be mindful and not over lap events and like you said tournaments in the summer should not be held or they need to be limited. I am a weekend angler and this is my 2 cents on this.
Where is the conservational aspect if you fish the whole year around and with cheaterboxes, etc.)
This avid recreational angler resents the shtheads tournaments attract;
in 9-ball too.
Good, these tournaments have a dirty lil secret no one like to talk about. They come in and F stuff up for the locals you live close to and invest time in their lake and community to see that its protected… the revenue for the lil marinas and local eateries are decent but these pro tournaments just rob any sole any cool vibing fishery might have.
Boy I hope it does. Maybe if it all ends you'll stop making these ignorant videos
We need pro tournaments like we need pro safaris.
The fewer anglers the better. (TRUISM)
Bummer … right?
I think the limits idea would be good both for dates and equipment limits. Make it "old school again"! But maintaining the tournaments because they do generate an industry and economy. Simply reduce the effective impact on the fish themselves, thus reducing the take.
I think that catch weigh and release would be a great help in tournaments. The day of weighing in bags of fish is the biggest draw back to bass tournaments. (all you people that don't fish this is just my opinion and yes I actually fish)
Regulate wake boats…they are horrendously destructive and the ballast tanks are poisoning the water
No …love tournaments….it brings attention to the species and lakes…the attention also brings measures to support said species and lakes…ie Scott Martin and the over spraying of ochechobee is one of countless examples…
Will this channel get back to actual bass fishing in 2025 ? . . . or will it continue to be mostly click-bait / tournament drama ?
If that's what's paying your bills I understand, and will look elsewhere for good fishing content.
I see the problem as government control of the lakes. Private, pay to play lakes where they aim for sustainable, trophy bass populations for the customer anglers is the way to go. Would it be more expensive? Yeah, and way better. The state has failed the lakes.
Tournaments destroyed what we all grew up to love as to what fishing should have been
I don't think it needs to be completely eliminated, but it definitely needs to be limited
Good points.
How does tournament fishing benefit the fish? It benefits the local economy and the industry but takes away from a resource without putting back.
Add habitat management or stocking to requirements for tournaments to be allowed.
Definitely in favor of picture weigh and release if tournaments continue. Why do we need a weigh in?
