My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. Vingtage floating jerks are awesome. It's where you start to understand the movements that triggers. At least, that's where my understanding comes from. To see that which cannot be seen is the highest level in this game. Once you understand, you can build a jerk to rival the likes of Megaass, but these grown kids say I don't know anything. I have yet to tell you what to look for.

  2. Lots of memories with Shadraps. Also Smithwick Rogue, Uncle Josh Pork frogs, Mepps Aglia, Moss Boss, Johnson Silver Minnow, dare I say Dardevle and yes, Jitterbug all had (and most still have) a place in my tackle box. The Heddon River Runt Spook Sinker, and Creek Chub Pikie are on the retired wall.

  3. Bombers are Bass Royalty🏆 You can’t beat the price on Lurenet. The vintage ones made in Gainesville Texas where I used to live and teach grade school, are still used all the time. Fat Free line, 6A the 4A and the Square A are epic baits. The flat A lures are absolutely deadly! 5A and Fat A are also Smallmouth catching machines. Great vid! Glad you mentioned these vintage lures and that you use them!

  4. I thought you was going going to break out and sing the Chug Bug song. I forgot the words to it. I caught 3 schooling bass at the same time on a Mann’s Minus 1 back in the 1970s. Only triple I’ve caught on a single lure. I’ve caught a lot of doubles.

  5. Matt, I have an idea for a video since the season is over and you can get out on the river now maybe you could go down one day and explain to guys what a wing damn is what a current Seam is kind of point out the hot spots and show newer guys exactly what to look for. And this wouldn't be for just the boaters it could be for anybody walking the bank or wading the river etc. help the new guys and even guys who don't fish rivers much.

  6. I fishing covers a decent amount of time from the late 1960s , 1970s, 1980s , into the 1990s. Then fast forward to 2016-ish. There was so many great manufactures in my early years , Heddon , Mann’s , Whopper Stopper , Bill Norman , Strike King etc I still use a lot of my old lures and they do catch fish. I got tied up in the JDM lures and my experience was they are great and unique colors. But $$ and the plastic they use doesn’t seem to hold up very well at times .. Just my 2 Cents

  7. I found a old tacklebox for 10$ that had a bunch of OLD top water soft bait frogs with double eyelets to make them leep up whenever you give them a snap and other seriously old softbaits plus some black bucktails, a chicken sized yellow marabou jig and a Johnson silver minnow that looked hand soldered. The thing that amazed me was how soft the soft baits were. Those frogs were almost like a balloon feeling plastic. Thanks for the content, Matt. Keep it up and remember to Stay calm and fish on.

  8. Matt, sure looked like you were holding up a 6A Bomber to me. My preferred color is DFY, dull faded yellow. Great for cranking rocks in the river. 6A tends to hang in the rocks more than a 7A but I use both.
Also, still use the 5&7 shadraps and and chugbugs. I think you've been looking in my tackle box. I'm 83 and still go twice a week in good weather. Sure do like your videos and personality Matt.

  9. Tough question. There are so many traditional baits still made today for a reason. Many old-school Rapala baits like the floating minnow, any Mepps inline spinner, Heddon topwaters, Johnson Silver minnow, etc. But one plastic bait that still works today is the Lunker City Slu-Go. I can fish it so many ways. It works great with the Core Tackle Hover Rig too.

  10. Original Zara Spook, Pop-R, Baby and Tyni Torpedos, Devils Horse, Jitter Bug (jointed also), Crazy Crowler and so many others Just in the Surface! I love the old lures, they are the ones that I started fishing with!

  11. a rapala original floating minnow. It was the only lure i had back as a kid in the early 90s. I’d get two new ones every Christmas as a kid. Still fishing it to this day.
