New Melones Bass Fishing

A preview of what you can expect during a warm summer morning on the water at New Melones Lake, in the Sierra foothills, targeting spotted and largemouth bass. Topwater lures often work well here both early and late in the day, but they were unproductive during this trip (maybe due to the dropping water level), while white spinnerbaits and earth-tone Ned-rigs worked well for fish to almost 3 pounds. The key is finding bass that are feeding on this reservoir’s large schools of baitfish.
