  1. Coaching others to file Toxic Lead was never, is not, and won’t ever be a genius idea. Buying the right hook is a better idea. Large “plummeting” tungsten beads in the 7/32” size will fit over medium to large size bass hooks, the hook barb being the biggest limiter. Lead-free wire wraps work, too. There are better and safer ways. Not a good follow-up to yesterday’s safety-focused piece.

  2. You can get weighted hooks with screw locks like that in lighter weights. Salt Strong has them. They're pretty awesome for the saltwater around the marshes and when a lot of marsh grass is drifting around in the tide. Last year I caught a cobia and a flounder in about 5 minutes on a fluke with a belly weighted hook with a spinner and I'll be using those again soon. Maybe tonight. The seaweed and marsh grass are getting bad. Those rigs work well for Redd and trout and flounder, my favorite targets around the Chesapeake Bay.

  3. Just a polite heads up
Absolutely no need to waist time and effort and get exposed to lead as both Owner and Gamakatsu make weighter screw lock hooks like you Randy are using in 1/16th, 1/8th, and 1/4oz weighted versions
I have and use all three
    The Owner version is called
*The weighted Owner Twist Lock Light hook
*Gamakatsu weighted Super Line Twist Lock hook
Been using both for about 8 weeks now in 4/0 size with 5-5.25" Flukes doing absolutely awesome on bass from shore.
They hold the fluke in place really REALLY well almost as if glued.

  4. Is it just me, but this past year, I have a very difficult time getting bit using a paddle tail. It doesn't seem to matter where I fish it, how it's fished and even if used as a trailer, the bites are few and far between. Suggestions are welcomed..
