Is Forward Facing Sonar Good for Professional Bass Fishing?

Been asked a lot about forward facing sonar, here’s our thoughts about it. Where do you stand on ffs?

  1. Its ruining the SPORT!! End of discussion. Hank Parker Said it best on that podcast. High school kids are getting dominated by the two rich kids in the school, and the poor up and comer can't chase his tournament dream bc all the wealthy guys have 50,000 dollars of sonar on there boat. And its boring to watch on tv.

  2. I agree 100.. ffs has made a short road from beginner to pro it's made the classic an redcrest not mean as much just look at the young guys now coming in its never happened before because you guys have Invested years of learning your craft that's what separated the pros an beginners not electronics
Thanks Chris I've been watching an hoping you would start a channel I enjoy listening an learning from you an your brother because you both are the best of the best

  3. I’m sure he uses side imaging and the latest maps on those massive monitors at his console, probably buries his head in charts on his computer before he fishes and then idles around for hours marking structure to identify the most productive structure and locations to fish, but FFS is too much? With as much money is on the line with professional fishing, the entry fees, etc. pros are not going out and blind casting to areas that might hold fish.

I’d bet that as side imaging came out, all the “old timers” then probably made the same arguments, “too much technology, too easy to catch fish, all they do is drive around and look at their monitors and they aren’t fishing, it’s going to wipe out fish populations”

Maybe the answer is to take all electronics off of a boat and see “who really knows how to fish?” Fact of the matter is everyone on the tour uses some type of electronic aid/crutch to make them a better fisherman.

  4. When I explain ffs to any person that doesn't fish they yell over me before I can finish 'That's Cheating isn't it!" As if it's a rhetorical question. When I tell them pros are aloud to use it they are dumbfounded. Maybe we should hold a court of unbiased opinions. I gotta feeling I know the answer but maybe I'm wrong and we continue using the logic of a 10 year old child

  5. Ban it… the technology has had a domino effect. The sport has had more drama than 13 year old girls locker room because of ffs. Businesses that produce tackle have seen a dramatic decline.
The companies that made ffs have corporate dollars that are dictating the sport. And not for the good.

  6. I say absolutely no to a ban. it is evolution to the sport. for every argument for a ban there is a equal or better (imo) argument against a ban. none of the analogies and comparisons I keep hearing make any reasonable sense to me. I dont have all the answers but I do have a few ideas. it amazes me how many people hate livescope but had no problem with bed fishing over the years. for the technology it is, ffs is widely and readily available, very affordable and not financially discriminating which gives everyone the opportunity to use it if they want. there is no reason for someone to not use ffs except for the fact that they dont want to. that creates a level playing field. look at other times technology has come out and been cost discriminating, not available to everyone, or both.

  7. I have it on my boat, but I'm not a pro, and don't fish tournaments. I still like to just get on a bank fish it with whatever I feel like works, plus I like to look at them too, so I do both, and not for money. When I get to watch a pro tournament, I find myself pulling for the ones that TRY to refuse FFS, and fish old school. I'm older, so I still love watching how they use to have to figure them out, and have to use their special skills they learned the hard way, to catch em. So, I think it's a good thing for us non pros, but a bad thing for the industry, and the sport in general. Just my take….

  8. A better baseball analogy would be akin to a new rule where the hitter is now told what the pitch is before it comes. Yes you still have to hit the ball but it's a lot easier when you know what pitch is coming Totally changes the game

  9. Might as well hang up your fishing gear and sell your boat and take up golf. Golf clubs a cart in a country club membership is cheaper than bass fishing now.

  10. You are screwing yourself on the electronics sponsorship acquisitions. Flush it down the drain. Now the Facebook Instagram tiktok influencers are going to be the ones that people look to.. not the pros.

  11. Starting to hear this new argument that FFS is hurting the sale of other baits beside minnow baits and jig heads is bad. I say it's a good thing. The price of baits these days are ridiculous! Every bait seems like it's gone up over 50% in the last 5 years. Cheap fishing line is get'n too expensive. Maybe when everyone only buys jig heads and minnows they will finally stop ripping us off on all the other baits and tackle. The Classic showed us people can still fish shallow and use FFS. Tournament fishing is boring as hell when no one's catching fish. If you're catching more fish (with FFS) the better it is. IMO
Good luck on the rest of your season, Chris.

  12. Notice how no one toward the top of any standings is speaking out against ffs. So far, it’s mostly Randy’s old “get off my lawn” guys speaking out against it. If the demographic that drive the sport and sales going foreword starts to turn on it, it may go away. So far, Do see it. With that said, I do believe they may make a token transducer limitation.

  13. They better figure this out soon before it kills the sport. there's been more drama in bass fishing this year than in my granddaughters 7th grade cheer team. Maybe they should compromise and limit screen size and how many monitors can be used, some of these boats look like the TV department at Walmart.

  14. It's going to drive people away from bass fishing because of the cost. If they can't compete against the guys that can afford it and have it. I think they will just become discouraged and walk away from it. At some point the only bass fisherman left will be looking down at screens, holding a spinning rod with a hover rig hanging from it.

  15. It needs to go just not in tour eys but needs to be gone off the planet, humans need to be regulated beacuse we are ignorant and greedy. The lakes will be decimated by ffs

  16. Banning it is not the answer, the cats already out of the bag & has been for years. That said I do think for a Professional level tournament trail thier should be some limitations. If 99% of all the tournaments were not dominated by FFS, no one would even be talking about it so much. It clearly has dominated & will continue to. I think maybe allow it in half the tournaments & only let guys have 1 FFS transducer on a boat would be good. Then it would show who is truly the best all around anglers. You have to be good at fishing without it also. I definitely think there would be some guys that couldn't compete without it. Maybe I'm wrong? I don't think I am… It would be interesting to see!
