I've first found out about w-40 40 years ago but never tried it . I've seen it on boats out at the lake when I Used to fish money tournaments. I think I've even seen it on Roland Martin's boat but not to sure . But if you no Roland call and talk to him . For the last 40 years w-40 has popped up many times and there are guys that swear by it . But think Roland can help you more on the subject.
I've heard this for over 40 years.
you can get worm oil by itself and dont need to use wd-40. (If you dont know worm oil is an ingredient in wd-40)
It is also a cleaner it degreases, so it's not the scent that it adds, it is what it is washing away and that would be human scent that is transfered through oils in our skin.
We were using WD-40 on our baits back in the 80's. Not so much for bass but it worked great for trout, catfish, and stripers.
I would put it on my spinners for trout sure didnt hurt caught plenty of trout supposedly there is fish oil in it
I've seen guys use Wd40 to juice up nightcrawlers an catch There limit of trout from a pay lake in like 10 mins
i have heard that it helps when fishing for catfish, i have never tried it, so i cant say
I use Aquanet Extra Strength hair spray for fish attractant. It only attracts the big 80s style gals, 8+ pounders.
My father in law was a very early tournament fisherman. He said guys were using it to keep line from freezing on the reel and figure out it helped catch rates.
Randy spray Axe Body Spray on your plastics dont matter what scent its a Bass catcher it will out fish Bang any day of the week
I grew up fishing the puget sound in Washington for salmon and all my Dads friend that came out on the boat sprayed wd40 on their flasher and hoochies. Looking back it wasn't good for the environment however in the 80's nothing we were doing was. We definitely caught a crap load of salmon back then.
I bet WD40 is good at masking human scents like gasoline, tobacco, sunscreen, etc.
Probably not an attractant.
I've seen people use wd40 when fishing for catfish back in the 90s….they would spray it on stink bait or cut bait. That seemed to be a fishing trend that was popular 30+ years.
What do you think about Bait Fuel
I too have always heard this, however I too am not a fan of putting a Petro based chem in the water so I haven't tried it.
I grew up on the west coast fishing for salmon and steelhead. Using WD 40 has been around for more than 50 years. And it works. I've seen it 4 or 5 times fishing with guides even. The troll or back bounce herrings and they'll squirt some inside the herring. Every trip the rods with WD baits always catch more fish. Quite a few. Doesn't matter rod location on the boat, etc. Works for cod too.
Edit – I couldn't see that is made any difference once fish were up in the smaller rivers where we drift fish salmon eggs or cookies.
It does work. My grandfather did it quiet often, and caught bass. WD-40 gives off a rainbow effect in the water.
Game wardens frown on the practice, and I've heard of anglers getting ticketed for it.
There was a video made back like 30 years ago where a charter capt was putting Wd40 on his rubber squids on one downrigger and none on the other one same color same depth and the wd40 squid caught 12 Salmon and the non wd40 caught 1
It helps when the bass get lock jaw!!!!!
I used WD40 while fishing speckle trout in the early 90s and it works very well. I have never used it for bass fishing though.
WD40…The secret that Randy and the professional bass fishing community could not hide😁
WD40 is petroleum based, I’m pretty sure that is bad for the environment. Have you ever seen the rainbow colored sheen that comes off of a bait that has a Spike It attractant on it? As much as I don’t want to say this, that GOOGAN Bandito Bug Stank is something special, a close second it the Rage Bug coffee stank! But that spray on stuff is no good; I accidentally got some on my sandwich and I tripped for 8 hours!
I don't use anything on my baits, and I catch fish. If I need to do something like that I'd just go with live bait. IMHO
Ive read that the main ingredient in WD 40 is fish oil.
Good video. I think some fisherman just enjoy keeping the wives tale alive. I agree with you and others in comments, don't pollute.
Thanks for your video
According to Berkley fish attraction only matters if the attractant is water soluble. So not oil. Not wd40.
Works wonders on arthritis
It works I haven’t done it before.
At one point, my buddy and I were looking into buying a champion bass boat . The owner of the boat told us he would take us out on the lake just to show that it was a good boat and even fish with us for the day. So we were throwing out worms and artificial doors and then we hear him spraying in the background and then you can smell the WD-40.. I thought nothing of it assuming that he was probably spraying his motor but he had his line in and within under five minutes he was pulling in a catfish. He openly admitted to us. Yeah, he has a WD-40 and it catches them fast for catfish..
When I was a kid my uncle used to take me fishing and I would see him use WD40 and transmission fluid when we was catfishing and we would catch them but I’ve not used any like that since I was 8 years old but it did work for him
Seems like its just pollution
WD-40 is made out of fish oil. Research it. It's illegal where I live. But it's a must when Perch fishing.
Back when I first used WD40 it had a Vanilla smell,I believe it just covers human scent, may get extra bites with it
I would never be convinced to do this!
The main ingredient is supposed to be fish oil😂😂
Hey Randy,
I have never used WD for bass. However, when fishing for Salmon…ALL my buddies swear by it!
Theory is.. in current, the oil slick draws fish to lure..
Maybe…?
And you consider yourself a pro fisherman……
The myth is that WD-40 has fish oil in it, and that attracts fish. According to the manufacturer, it has never had fish oil in it. So…
I've heard that wd 40 does work never tried it. I've also heard preparation H works as well to but never tried it. Now I have seen Alka seltzer tablets broken into small chunks and put inside tubes
Back in the late 80s guys were telling me they put wd 40 on their jig n pig. I thought it was BS and never tried it. years later I tried it out of curiosity and did catch fish on soft plastics. It only made me think that bass sense of smell was minimal at best..
DW-39 for the win!
I've heard of it for years!
