I was fishing tournaments with a BASS chapter club out of Birmingham in the Late 70’s. I kind of retired from it as family happened. I always wondered how BASS moved on and what we have now evolved from BASS. Just a few years ago it was all FLW but now it seems that the Toyota Series and the Elite Series are kind of in the front now. It is interesting. Ray Scott was the original promoter and I doubt anyone will ever replace him after his passing. Thanks for the history you shared as I have a more clear picture of how it all went down.
My understanding is and I got this in a round about way from Denny Brauer is that BASS could see how Nascar was groing so they got the Idea to give the anglers numbers and race the boats and grab fans from nascar. Love the videos keep it up

Just came across your video,being retired I can relate,my last tournament I fished was as a co on clear lake,it was a weird ass day,I do understand why young video nurds that fish love it,the art of fishing doesn't matter,now all the people in favor say you can't stop the advances,well,having five screens and three trolling motors,is not fishing,are deer hunters going to wear FFS,heat thermal helmets,silencers,quiet bullets,may fishing will stop FFS and allow drones with down scan,whats next?
I hear what you are saying about the companies can do better with fisherman. You don't see opens at nascar. Thats the best of the best racers. You can still go race in a club if you have to race. Make it Basscar I say. Otherwise it's can you outfish me from the same boat and what are we fishing for lol

150's pushed the old 390 Rangers just fine, and there probably hasn't been a HEAVIER bass boat.
I had never heard this story! That tells you how popular it was LOL. I did know that the Red Man's became flw. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I do not want to watch bass boats race to me that would be like watching paint dry😂. Over here we fish USA bassin, it's a very affordable one day event tour and they've got several divisions. They also put on a national championship in a classic every year in Tennessee. My partner and I have fished the classic at chickamauga and at Pickwick. We actually finished third last year in the Kansas State regional championship and qualify again for their classic coming up in April it's back at Pickwick. It definitely doesn't get the caliber a fisherman the redmans did back in the day, however it is affordable and because it's broken down by state the travel is not bad at all. I love USA bassin!
