HUGE Bass Hits Old Ugly Lure | Early Spring Kayak Bass Fishing

I’m bass fishing in Dallas Texas this week and taking a kayak out to an old lake I used to fish. I am fishing the main lake and pockets looking for a few big largemouth bass that might be staging up to spawn soon. I haven’t landed any big bass yet this year, so I was pumped to finally get a big largemouth bass in my hands! I am throwing an old ugly lure that I used to catch these huge bass on around rocky stained water lakes. It looks like a crawfish, it’s loud, and it has an ugly brown paint color on it. For some reason, there are some huge largemouth bass that will hit this crankbait in the early spring, but I can’t get many bites on it at other times of the year. I ended up catching a few other nice bass on spinnerbaits as well around some shallow water areas, but staying on the main lake and fishing for the big girls was a challenge with the wind in the kayak. I’ll also explain how to find largemouth bass this time of year and what I like to look for when hunting for big fish.

  1. Where would you target bass in the spring time for deep glacial lakes with very little creek channels? Would you just chase flats, 1st breaks like rocks, weedlines and docks that are closer to deeper water?

  2. Cool video man! Kinda looks like Grapevine lake. I fished a kayak bass tournament out there on the 25th and your dad was there. He stomped almost everyone and came in 3rd place out of 84 kayak anglers. Was really awesome when he got up and mention who he was cause I don't think anyone knew really at the time. Said he caught like 30 fish on a spinnerbait fishing in the wind all day on the North end of the lake.

  3. that crankbait looks like a bomber fat A. The crawfish pattern is good because the crawfish are getting active and make more noise when the water temps reach the mid 50s.
