Bass Fishing New Melones Lake California 12 21 2023

It was the official first day of winter but you could not tell by the weather. The water temp was 57, the air temp got up to 62 and there was very little wind. It was raining the day before but had stopped. The only thing missing was the fish. I hooked into two but compare that to 10 last week at the same lake. One big difference this week is I spent a lot of time trolling for trout at my wife’s request. In fact, one of the bass was caught while trolling a fire tiger spoon for trout. I am quickly becoming a fan of blade baits. They are so easy to fish fast or slow, shallow or deep it allows you to cover a lot of ground quickly. I will be taking 2-3 weeks off from fishing while the family is here for the holidays. I expect we will be deep into the winter pattern by the time I get back out. That is always a challenge.
