My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Awesome video!
I always trim my skirt up to the hook so I don't interfere with my trailer. But I didn't know about thinning out The jig for fall rate
The dirty jigs finesse swimjig was the bait I caught the most spotted bass on yesterday. Really like the 3/8 oz size the best. It was the spot killer color with a 3.5 inch white easy shiner trailer.
Awesome video very very helpful thank you
Great advice on skirts
Matt, your videos are some of my favorites. I learn a lot. I was already a heavy modifier of all my jigs but this really put strand count and movement into perspective. I will tie my own skirts sometimes, cut the weedguards down and thin them out, etc.
Have you ever tried living rubber on a moving jig, esp a chatterbait? The real thin living rubber strands, not the big thick strands like on flipping jigs. I have a white chatterbait the skirt was jacked up so I put some really thin living rubber as a new skirt, and that things moves and undulates like nothing else. Every time the chatterbait kicks or darts or just vibrates back and forth, that skirt goes crazy. It is currently my most productive chatterbait.
So a trick I learned watching Matt Allen of Tactical Bassin, I use hair thinning scissors to trim all of my skirts right out of the package. It makes for a nice uneven skirt and seems to really give it much more action.
Outstanding video… if this was a math score you would have gotten a 110 A+
Thanks for the new info.
Great tips. I have been modifying the stock skirts based on your previous videos, but the tip about retrieving lower/higher in the water column is a finer nuance that I will consider more in the future. Thanks Matt
I myself prefer a shorter skirt ๐! It just lets the trailer do more business back there imo. Thanks as always man, you guys all crush it!
Excellent!
juicy
Thank you for the video
I always trim the top have of my skirts just about even with the head of the jig or spinner bait. It makes the skirt stand out and you get more movement from the skirt. Just a old trick from my tournament days! ๐ Great info as always! Thanks
Skirts are useless. You can believe me or not. Color is more importanter.
Great info
Great information here Matt, I often times overlook my skirt density and dont pay attention to it very much but you have opened my eyes to this important factor!!!
Great video as always Matt
I see you using red cuz it's the season. I'm listening to a song right now that made me leave this comment. "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray
having a lot of skirt material also shortens casting distances which can be important to bank anglers
Great tips here Matt. I have started trimming them but hadn't worked on thinning. I was only shortening because they all seem to cover up trailers. Great idea to thin it down so more visible. Thank you
Great video, Matt! What I wanted to say, though, is – great tip on bookmarking the affiliate link. I want to support, and so many times I could, but I flat out forget.
I pour and tie my own jigs because I just canโt find โthe jigโ. And your spot on playing with the skirt is crucial. I have what I feel is a killer skirt style and also add some other mods that I wonโt mention in public because every fisherman has their secrets! Great video thanks!
Really informative video Matt. Thanks.
Thanks Matt. Good skirt tips.๐
There is a reason Hank makes his own custom skirts winter fun an function always a pleasure thanks for all the help ๐
This was informative information that I know for myself is often times overlooked. Listening to you put it all into perspective really made the light go off, just another reason that I enjoy your videoโs. Thanks for your time and work that you put into your videoโs. ๐๐ป๐บ๐ธ๐ฃ
Love your vids and tips but I have a question is you chair 2 toned goldfish one side grey the other side or is that just the lighting
A lot of great information here never even considered the skirt, definitely going to trim my spinnerbaits & chatterbaits thanks alot๐ฃ๐ฏ
I tie my own spinnerbaits skirts for about 35 years now. I take one of those full length skirts and cut them in the middle at an angle, so some strands are longer than others. Then I roll them around on the counter to mix the different lengths together and use thread to tie them onto my spinnerbaits. This gives me 2 skirts. I always slide a 2 to 3 inch grub body onto my hook shank to provide "fill" for the body and bulk for the bass to suck it in.
Love anything from DIRTY too
Good one bro , like it !
The complete book on "jig-fishing" has yet to be written, which is why I enjoy watching your videos, Matt. You are a thinker and are perceptive and aware, and I like how you break the mold. And, I think your sons are really fun to watch and are headed in the right direction with a good father(and mother) to raise them. Very enjoyable to see that you include them in your productions and give them recognition and an active role. They are destined to grow-up Right! I'll try a new angle to jig-skirts, per your ideas.
Good stuff Matt ๐
Make my own skirts, this is very helpful. Thanks Matt.
Matt taking us to skirt school. Much appreciated!
You made some excellent points in this video, things that I've always overlooked in my fishing! I'm definitely gonna be thinking about these points now. I buy Boss jigs and build my own skirts so the things you have said will be very helpful, thanks Matt!! You da man!!!
Can you talk more about slow vs fast in clear or muddy water? Thanks!
Great video & Great explanation!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
๐๐๐๐๐
Great video. 5 Stars.
Late but here , good stuff man ๐ฏ๐
Jig bite today, Thanks Matt
Great video Matt!
Absolutely great information Matt.
I do like messing with jig skirts. I always keep a bunch on hand of several different types. Although, I probably go overboard with it and change my skirts and mess with them too often. But it can be fun customizing a jig!
One of the best videos I've seen lately great information Matt
Excellent information !
