Randy has a discussion on what catching catfish while your bass fishing tells you about bass movement and behavior…#fishing #bassfishing #bass #fishthemoment #catfishing

.
This just happened to us last week point fishing in the Ozarks. We were fun fishing 6XDs and loved the action. We were picking off strippers, blue cats and largemouth. Was an absolute riot of fun.
Catfish hit brown helicopter lure. Switched to brown squarebill had a great day
Any thoughts on the presence of Carp in an area?
I catch catfish on crankbaits a lot
Chatterbaits and squarebills both have caught me 10lb catfish. Fishing for bass and set the hook on a fish that feels like a monster compared to the 1 and 2 pounders. The only problem is all the slime they get on your line, lure, net and boat.
I wish more people would keep those flatheads to eat. I know nobody wants to fool with a big one, but if you catch one eater size take it home and fry it up!!!
Interesting video. I have a place on a lake in central GA and just got back into bass fishing last year or so, spent many years doing it but stopped completely for about 10 years. What got me started back was a pedal drive kayak, first fish I caught was about a 8 lb blue Catfish on a texas rigged worm, I thought I had the lake record until I saw what it was. LOL Up until then could not remember catching one on a texas rig, and still surprised how much this is occurring. Now I know to see it as a good thing not bad, THANKS!!!!
Caught lots of cats n bass fishing a salmos on rip rap this time of year at the Illinois cooling lakes!
I have caught cats on cranks, jigs, ned rigs, etc. Crazy things lol. Usually use chicken livers to get em lol. Great video!!
Funny you say this I usually catch flathead flipping standing trees aswell. I caught a 20 lber on a jig I'm broad daylight the other day. But that is not unusual when they are spawning in June to be more aggressive toward lures
Caught my first flathead yesterday on a square bill
I just experienced this last weekend
I caught a catfish around 8 pounds during a tournament and thought I had the winner till I seen the whiskers come up out of the tree top. LOL
Man you are right.
Great tip! Thanks Randy!
Same thing happened to me last week during a rodeo tournament. Switched up to a night time spinner bait I make and BAM there were the bass.
I never get disappointed when I catch a whisker fish when bass fishing! Years ago I used to go out and catch nice flathead's on big paddle tail swim baits and I loved it and need to get back into it!
On Lake Fork in the fall and winter, catching schooling bass on spoons, I catch quite a few catfish. When you start catching catfish on spoons it's time to move, the bass are gone. My experience. I think they move in to slurp up the cripples.
Wow Randy, that’s great info! I never thought about it that way. Great tip. Thanks.
24# flathead in a brush pile on 9" black worm in 10' water, of course I thought I had 10 plus bass
I caught a nice flat head a couple weeks ago on a senko. Total blast in the kayak.
Another awesome unique topic. And relevant – I've had some catfish SLAM my squarebill and thought I had some tank bass on only to be disappointed lol
I have a similar tip when carp are stirring up the bottom.
They disturbed the crayfish etc as they cruise through, and the bass are chowing down on them like Star Jones, on a peach cobbler!
Wow I caught a channel cat yesterday on bass gear. What a timely vid!
Caught a big catfish on a spinnerbait last year, shook so hard it knocked one of the ceramic rings out of an eye on my rod. Also bent me spinnerbait all to hell lol.
This is so on point. Last week I was fishing a size 70 square bill and caught 3 big channel cats…I also caught two 3lb bass and lost a third biggun when I switched to a wake bait to stay away from the cats. Never caught cats on such a large crank before. I found that very interesting and like you said, the bass were also hitting reaction baits. This was right between two islands that were only 30 feet apart…the wind was pushing the water and creating flow between them. It was a good day.
I always assumed I was throwing the right bait when I caught catfish or any other species other than bass. I.e. the red jig I beg you to try. I have caught almost every species on it in TN and some salt water fish as well.
Caught a 28 lb flat head on a squarebill in may this year and he inhaled it. Was a nasty fight. Also caught a 36” blue cat on a ned rig on my paddle board , it acted as a second drag cause it was doing whatever it wanted with me. I catch a ton of drum on crank baits too.
Makes sense, as how bass fishing and cat fishing is so amazing in here in clear lake California
I’ve caught a catfish on a under spin and squarebill
Nothing better than skipping a ned rig under a dock only to drag in a 10+ cat on light line. They’re little freshwater 🦈
Thought I had a state record bass for sure on a senko with 10 pound line. Nope just a 15 pound channel cat lol
I've caught alot catfish when bass fishing mostly on crank baits & swimbaits. I don't get upset when I do catch catfish. Even if I'm targeting largemouth I enjoy it, they put up a good fight!
I’ve caught some catfish on crank baits , mainly the shallow diver Bandit , and thought at first I had a giant bass too , fooled me a few times
Caught a 15lb carp last week on a whopper plopper.
Happens a lot in windy shad filled lakes on wayward side of lake in central California, good eating!
Hi Randy from Italy! Last week fishing with texas rig using a Zoom speed worm I caught a Barbel. At the beginning I said…"this will be the world record! 🤣" but after two minutes of fighting I realized that wasn't a bass…what a battle 💪🏻Two months ago using the same setup I hooked on my line a type of catfish that you guys don't have in USA(luckily). Here is called Siluro (that means Rocket) it grow up more than 100kg. Obviously it broke my line ☹️
Good information, love the channel.
Got me thinking of the lake I live by and fish the most….
Any advice on what carp do to the bass spawn pre-to-post?
Seems like every year the carp are taking over more of the bass spawning beds and pushing them out by the large numbers and mobs of carp.
Do they eat the eggs, and or how do they effect the bass population?
Thanks and respect for doing what you do.
Use to fish a lot of night T's and I cannot tell you how many big cats we caught. Exciting at first but then you feel the rolling and the disappointment sets in. My partner once caught 3 5lb + cats off the same weed bed in about 10 minutes. At that point I said it is time to move.
I catch tons of channels on spinnerbaits and crankbaits. My largest was a 30 plus pound flathead. The spinner bait are usually less that 10 pounds. Even the small ones can really tear up a spinnerbait 🤦🏻♀️🤷♀️ only been able to land the bigger ones while fishing a jig or similar type bait. The big flathead mentioned above was on grand. The Arkansas river cats are killers on the spinners and cranks 👍 great video
I find this video interesting. I have caught more catfish this year than in many of the previous years. Most came on crank baits, or ned rigs. Big, two to four pound cats. All released.
Thanks randy 🙂 as always
I catch catfish on jigs quite often
Interesting timing for this subject since just a week or two again Ilost what would have been my PB catfish throwing a jerkbait. All of my biggest catfish have been caught while bass fishing. I love the change of pace sometimes getting a big cat out of the blue.
