How can you as a professional angler not know 50% of the Elite anglers? I watch maybe 2 live feeds a year and maybe 5 names don’t ring a bell. Even as a fan that prefers MLF, 95% of the Elite guys are common names to me. If anything, I think there’s too many guys hanging on in both circuits that need to hang it up.
Those saying that you're not following or keeping up with these events, or you'd know who they are, may or may not have a point.
But it's hard to deny that these guys are what I refer to as 'Faceless Outside of Their Circle'.
As was already mentioned in the comments, there are very few 'characters' these days that fans / followers can identify with, follow, relate, or despise.
I don't put that blame on the new era of anglers themselves, they are just a product of the sport . . . which as you've repeatedly said, is much tougher from top to bottom than it has been in 30+ years.
There's probably so much stress and financial burden(s) to reach the point of the EQ's /Elite's, that there's little time to do anything other than eat-sleep-breathe tournament bass fishing.
(Side Note) – Take a look at Zaldain . . . he's been at this for quite some time, recognizable, and relatable to the swimbait / spoon crowd . . . now he's putting a lot of effort into his podcast & videos to not only stay relevant, but to keep his face & name out there for his sponsors . . . and look at what kind of year he had in 2023 as a result of that effort ! That dude's burning the candle on both ends just to survive . . . and it shouldn't be that way.
It's only going to get worse unless BASS takes some very risky gambles to make some very SIGNIFICANT changes . . . and that is highly unlikely to happen.
This is just the reality of all aspects of life. Everyone’s time in the sun is brief. Then someone younger and hungrier comes along. Whether it’s fishing, or football, or banking, or carpentry or whatever career you can name. And the world keeps spinning like it always does. Also if you don’t know these guys you just don’t pay attention to tournament fishing because these kids are studs.

The fact is that the #1 thing that has promoted the growth of outdoor sports is social media.
Without the next generation rising in the ranks, we will lose our outdoor sports, professional or recreational. #protectourfreedoms

I couldn't disagree more, personally I think that the youth movement is a great thing for the sport. I keep up with the B.A.S.S. Opens, especially with the new E. Q. (Elite Qualifications). I'm somewhat familiar with all of them. Even in the various mlf lower tier circuit's, for whatever reason guys are trying to make it to the bpt. Don't misunderstand me, I'm a huge fan of the older guys, Fritts, Clunn, Nixon, Grigsby, Klein, even Randy Blauket, etc but it's time. I'm an older guy myself and hate seeing these guys at the bottom of the standings, but that is where they all consistently finish. Sure, Rick Clunn has won a couple in the last four or five years, but he is the exception not the rule. For the most part, he leaves without a check, or with $2500.00 which is the lowest check B.A.S.S. writes. It's time for a new generation of professional angler's to move up out of triple A and into the Elites. If it was up to me, the bottom 10 or 15 angler's would drop off every year. An A.O.Y. or Classic winner would get one exemption per, after the exemption year, if they're still not cutting it they'd be back in triple or double A trying to requalify like everyone else.
This is why Ike Reese Martens Gman and KVD were so interesting/popular during the days of espn. They had style, they had a vibe, they came off like star athletes and were entertaining to watch. You wanted to root for them or you totally hated them. Now these young guns all look like value brand versions of Jordan Lee while also having the personalities of driftwood.
Randy, how much does your tampon sponsor pay you? I truly don’t understand how these videos are beneficial to the bass fishing community as a whole. Stick to the biased megabass lure/technique videos.

I feel the same way about NASCAR. All of the “older guys” withe personality don’t do anymore.
Talent and experience mean nothing. It's all about technology. I'm a lifelong bass fishing enthusiast. I'm becoming less and less of a professional bass fishing fan.
When you don’t see the same names in the top 10 at every event it means parity which is a good thing

Great video,very similar to golf,it's totally performance based,the only difference is pro golfers can't use laser guided putters like Rodney Dangerfield in caddy shack,but now we have young professionals with money using technology to win tournaments, when I watched the smallmouth fishing I didn't know anyone,can you imagine Houston using FFS,I can't, great show.
You have to have new people coming in to keep the sport going. I hate change but you can’t stop it. Keep teaching fishing for the benefit of the sport and the new fishermen coming in.
Look closely…5 of the top ten from LOZ are also in the top ten for AOY, which means that these guys are going to the ELITES. even casually observing would show that the guys currently in the TOP 10 overall AOY are fishing freaks that are grinding, and one of the young men has his mom driving him around all over the country. The thing that all of them have is rock solid support from family and sponsors (endemic and non-endemic) if you dont know them its because you arent paying attention.
How do you not know these guys?
I knew or have heard of most of these guys, A couple were college standouts, a few were local but had fished FLW, but almost all have had a stand out year in the Opens. Way back when, Pro bassin gave the impression of a closed group of southern anglers, and not very welcoming for "outsiders" … until KVD came along . Things have changed . Maybe it's time for a mental coach, and they might help you understand why you are thinking the way you do
Remember when the "Pro" anglers all had full-time jobs/careers doing something else? Jack Hains was a crop duster, Stanley Mitchell was a timber contractor, etc, etc.
Brandon Palaniuk has got to have family money, the way he travels around, has interesting videos not sure how well they pay but it does not matter to me.

The caveat to all these new faces is that younger people will begin to identify with the new fishing personalities and get into fishing, instead of something like video games. They will care about the resource, and defend the very thing we older fishermen have cherished for our whole lives.
And Randy I love your knowledge, enjoy your history, but leading people to think that not knowing these guys is is bad thing, That’s not a good thing.
I have to say, the comments slamming these guys, that’s what’s bad for the sport.
They love bass fishing probably more than 90% of us on here.

I agree with you, it’s like the minor league of baseball. So, I would like to see these companies put together there own teams. Consisting of shallow, deep water etc. Fish the person who is best at whatever situation.

Well what a few of those guys are doing is extremely impressive. Just look at the stats for Thompkins and Garrett. What they have done against a huge Opens field every single tournament this season is crazy.
Im 66 years old and haven’t watched tournaments for two years. I miss the days of Ray Scott and B.A.S.S. Pro anglers had charisma and a presence that transferred through the TV screen and were awesome in person. Too much tech crap and too little fishing talent. You’re from the old school, not a fish tech, just talent that’s why I watch you. Would you spend some time out on the water fishing in future videos? By the way, thank you.

With all due respect this is strictly my opinion for what little worth that is. It has nothing to do with the number of tours available or an individuals wealth. Just basic progression just like everything else in life. Change can be hard and uncomfortable but it’s inevitable.
It's just like any sport the young guys come in and knock off the old guys it's that way in any sport there's a new fan base and those are all the new people that they follow that's the New Elites they've got to be pretty good or else they wouldn't be fishing the elites and you see a lot of top Pros trying to fight their way back in to the elite through the opens you would still know most of the elite names but a few years ago they all jumped MLF

Here is part of the issue of not making a living at pro fishing. I am aware of someone, won't say I know him cause I don't, owns a house on a major lake in KY, paid his fee and fished and won over 200k with all the bonus money from pheonix and other event sponsors. He does not fish for a living, now if I was a pro angler this would piss me off someone who is not in it for a living to put food on the table and take a full time anglers payday. The reason you don't know these guys is anyone who pays entry fee can fish there is no formal league as in other big sports.
I don't know them because I don't want to watch a bunch of people staring at livescope screens on a boat.
I agree, don't know any of them, yes the TV is on but I'm not watching, not interested, ban FFS immediately, get back to fishing without to much technology, it will save our fisheries and our sport!
