Grinding For A Vero Beach Slam
In this video I launch in Vero Beach on Columbus day and head out for an adventure. The weather had cooled off and the wind was blowing pretty stiff out of the northeast up to 18 mph. Due to the strong wind from the north the water was high and the incoming tide lasted way longer than the usual 6 hours. In fact, it was probably closer to 8 hours. I started off by hitting some spoil island points and found some fish there. I fished a few other spots before deciding to head way south. That proved to be a big waste of time. After a few hours I headed back north to Vero. I immediately found some clean water and a nice redfish. By then it was past 1 pm and I decided to try for a trout. I missed the first two trout but finally connected on the third trout to give me a slam. By now it was 3 pm.
I was using a Z-Man 3 inch MinnowZ swim bait paired with a 3/8 oz Hook-Up jig head made by Gambler. I love the durability of this lure and if you have watched my channel enough you might think that it is the only lure that I use. Well it practically is because it catches everything. I can run it fast as a search bait. Snook large and small love it. Redfish love it. Trout love it. However, they like it a little slower some days. Redfish also like it slower than the snook. I have also caught plenty of tarpon on it. Flounder won’t turn it down if you run it slowly and near the bottom of a mud flat.
You probably have your own favorite lure that works well for you. Let me know what it is. Is it another swim bait? Topwater? Jig? Gold spoon? A shrimp lure?
