Can Japanese Lures Break My Lake Chabot Curse?
🐟 I brought back three bass lures from Japan and tested them on a local California fishery. The verdict? Tough day. Post-spawn bass, thick algae mats, and a near-zero bite window — not exactly ideal conditions for a gear test.
I threw the viral dice lure (you’ve probably seen it all over social media), a Japanese seabass lure, and the Galva by Daiwa. All three are designed for a different style of fishing than most American bass anglers are used to — finesse-forward, lighter presentations, built for clear water and pressured fish. California in algae season is a different conversation.
No fish this time, but I came away with a clear picture of where these lures want to be used — and where they don’t. That’s an honest gear test.
