Early FALL Bass Fishing SUCKS… DO THIS
Early fall bass fishing can be a confusing time of year. Everyone talks about bass chasing bait, feeding heavily and moving shallow—but when you actually get on the water, the fish don’t always follow the script.
For this trip, I’m fishing a couple of smaller, heavily pressured bodies of water during the early fall transition. Instead of overcomplicating things or cycling through a mountain of tackle, I kept the approach simple and let the bass tell me what they wanted.
I worked several soft-plastic presentations, including a Z-Man craw in Motor Oil on an EWG Ned rig, a Zoom Trick Worm on a TUSH-style rig, and a Strike King Rage Bug. Nothing exotic. Nothing complicated. Just proven presentations put into areas where I believed bass should be holding.
And that little Z-Man craw ended up doing some serious work.
The bass weren’t giants on this trip—but that’s part of real-world fishing. Every bite gives you information about location, depth, presentation, profile and how aggressively the fish are willing to feed. Instead of fishing how bass are supposed to behave in early fall, I adjusted to what the fish in front of me were actually doing.
If you’re struggling during the early fall bass fishing transition, don’t immediately start changing everything.
Keep it simple. Get a bite. Pay attention. Then build your pattern from there.
