The 3 Places I Look FIRST for October Bass!

Where should you look for bass in the fall? Three of the highest-percentage places I look for are channel swing banks, secondary points, and grass—especially in and around creeks where migrating shad concentrate during the fall.

In this video, I break down how I find fall bass by understanding the seasonal movement of baitfish and identifying the structure and cover bass use to feed.

You’ll learn:
• Why bass follow shad into creeks during the fall
• Why channel swing banks are high-percentage fall locations
• How secondary points intercept migrating bass
• Why hydrilla and other grass become important in the fall
• How falling water can affect bass location
• The best baits for fishing channel swings, secondary points, and grass
• How forward-facing sonar can help locate bass on secondary points
• How I approach shallow fall bass fishing

The three areas I look for first:

1. Channel swing banks — These provide deep-water access, hard bottom, and often additional cover such as laydowns and docks.

2. Secondary points — These can intercept bass and baitfish moving into and out of creeks and provide natural ambush locations.

3. Grass — Hydrilla, grass edges, and mats can concentrate baitfish and provide excellent feeding opportunities for fall bass.

Some of my favorite techniques around these areas include swim jigs, buzzbaits, ChatterBaits, crankbaits, topwater walking baits, swimbaits, frogs, and punching grass.

What type of structure or cover produces the most fall bass for you?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where do bass go in the fall?
As water temperatures cool and shad begin migrating into creeks, many bass follow the baitfish. The exact location within a creek can change, so searching from the back of the creek toward the main lake—or vice versa—can help identify the productive zone.

What structure should I fish for bass in the fall?
Three of my favorite places to start are channel swing banks, secondary points, and grass. Each can provide bass with access to baitfish, ambush opportunities, and nearby depth or cover.

Why are channel swing banks good for fall bass?
Channel swings can provide relatively deep water close to the bank, hard or rocky bottom, and additional cover such as laydowns and docks. Those characteristics can make them high-percentage locations during the fall.
