5 Baits YOU MUST Throw During October

October bass fishing can be SCARY good — but only if you’re throwing baits that match what the bass are doing during the fall transition!

In this video, I’m breaking down the 5 baits YOU NEED to be throwing when October bass fishing, including exactly why each one earns a spot in my tackle box, how I like to rig it, and when I reach for it.

October brings shorter days, longer nights, changing vegetation, cooling water and shifting baitfish activity. Bass notice ALL of it. Some fish are aggressively chasing forage while others still require you to slow down and put a bait right in their face. That’s why this list isn’t just five different moving baits pretending to be shad.

MY TOP 5 OCTOBER BASS BAITS:

#5 — Zoom Trick Worm
Don’t put the worm away just because fall has arrived! I’ll cover fall colors, different rigging options and one of my personal favorites — Bruised Banana.

#4 — Topwater Popper
The only dedicated topwater bait on my list. Chug it, spit it, slow it down and let those pauses do some serious work.

#3 — Soft Plastic Swimbait
A simple jighead and paddle tail can be deadly, but we’re also adding an underspin to give that little baitfish imitation extra flash and attention during the October feed.

#2 — Small Lipless Crankbait
DOWNSIZE! I’m leaning heavily toward the 1/4-ounce lipless crankbait during October, with 1/2 ounce being about as large as I want to go for this approach. Match that smaller forage, cover water and trigger reaction bites.

#1 — Soft Plastic Jerkbait / Fluke
My number-one October bass bait. A 4–5 inch Fluke can be fished fast, slow, shallow, erratic or allowed to fall like a dying baitfish. I’ll also show you how I’m using the Core Tackle Hover Rig to give this already deadly bait an entirely different look.

The biggest takeaway?

Fall bass fishing isn’t controlled by one magical water temperature.

Daylight, weather, vegetation, forage movement, water conditions and temperature are all pieces of the seasonal puzzle. Pay attention to what’s happening around you, find the bait, and let the BASS tell you how they want it presented.

You don’t need 100 different lures.

You need a handful of baits you understand and the confidence to know when to change.

So grab your tackle, hit the water and let’s see if we can SCARE UP A GIANT this October!
