Fishing below a MONSTER Spillway

I started the day at the Rogersville Spillway throwing artificial lures, but the weeds made it almost impossible to fish them effectively. So I changed the plan, grabbed some live shiners, and started drifting them through the current.

That decision completely changed the day.

Fishing live bait below the spillway produced an incredible mixed bag, including channel catfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, white bass, and even a walleye. You never really know what’s going to eat when you put a live shiner into moving water like this.

In this video, I’ll show you how I was drifting live shiners in the current, where the fish were holding around the spillway, and how changing tactics turned a frustrating start into one of the most diverse days of fishing I’ve had in a while.
