After finishing my cabin chores and walking the creek for native brook trout yesterday, I settled in for a quiet evening with two good friends — Jimbo and MF —

We sat around the campfire, got caught up on each other’s lives, swapped stories, laughed about old trips, and watched the fire crackle under a cool September sky.
The next morning, Jimbo headed to work and MF dialed into a meeting while I slipped my kayak onto the lake.

A cold front had rolled through overnight, and fall was knocking on the door. The bite was slow until I slowed down my retrieve and fished a little deeper — then the bass started hitting.

When MF finished his call, he strolled down the lane with his bobber and minnow bucket. I joined him on the shoreline, and together we found a promising dock. My first cast landed a nice largemouth, and MF followed with a pickerel that chased down his minnow.

A simple trip — a few fish, a few friends, and a few new memories.
