Spearfishing for smallmouth bass in Oregon rivers is an adventurous new way to remove non-native species and help salmon.

It started as an experiment on the Coquille River, where illegally introduced bass ate so many salmon they caused a population crash.

Mangers opened the river to spearfishing to remove as many bass as possible.

Jared Nagreen and Aaron Griffin dove in to help protect salmon.
