A Tough Session Ends With a PB Bass! | UK Beach Fishing
A tough night of beach fishing at Bexhill finally paid off when I landed a new PB bass from the Sussex coast. After several missed bites, this 48cm bass took fresh lugworm I’d pumped myself for the very first time earlier that evening.
Fishing along the Sussex coast has been tough recently, and this session looked like it might be another difficult night. My baits were coming back untouched, I missed a couple of good bites, and for a while it felt like the fish were getting the better of me!
But I kept the rods fishing, tried to be patient and waited for another opportunity.
Eventually I got a proper slack-line bite — and this time there was something decent on the other end.
A BASS! 🎣
At 48cm, it beat my previous PB of 36cm and became my first bass caught on camera for Blackbeards Fisherman.
But there was another reason this catch meant so much to me…
Earlier that evening I’d been out learning how to pump lugworm for the very first time. I didn’t collect loads, but I took what I’d managed to pump down to Bexhill with me — and one of those worms ended up catching my new PB bass.
Learning to collect my own bait and then catching a personal best with it just a few hours later made this one of those fishing sessions I’ll remember for a long time.
I’m still relatively new to sea fishing and learning something every time I head onto the beach. The difficult sessions are all part of it, but nights like this remind me why it’s always worth persevering.
Let me know in the comments how the fishing has been where you are — especially if you’re fishing the Sussex coast or elsewhere around the UK.
