One Big Bass Wasn’t Enough | Kansas Kayak Anglers North 75 Shootout

One big bass gave me a shot… but it wasn’t enough.

In this video, I’m fishing the Kansas Kayak Anglers North 75 Shootout, a unique tournament that gave anglers four different lakes to choose from. I decided to stay close to home and fish Lake Shawnee, knowing that some of the other lakes might offer better opportunities for bigger fish.

I started with a few hours of pre-fishing on Friday to see what I could figure out before tournament morning. When tournament day arrived, the wind picked up, the conditions got tougher, and it became a matter of grinding out as many bites as I could.

I caught plenty of fish and managed to put one really good bass on the board, but I never found the additional quality bites I needed to make a serious move up the standings. I ultimately finished around the middle of the field. It was not the result I was hoping for, but pretty close to what I expected based on the lake I chose.

That’s tournament fishing. Sometimes one big bite changes everything…and sometimes one big bass just isn’t enough.
