I started exploring different areas along the bank, looking for shade, weeds, undercuts, fallen trees, and other structure where panfish might be holding. After catching a few fish, I discovered that some of the best action was happening right along the bank using a 1-inch black Flex Bug paired with a 1/80-ounce jig head.

The crappie were smaller but plentiful, while I also caught some beautiful shellcrackers and several quality bluegill. I even hooked into one of the biggest bluegill I’ve seen, but it managed to get me tangled in the trees!
