Bass Fishing Before the Storm at Huntington Pond

Our weather here in CT has been nothing short of schizophrenic: we’ve gone from extreme heat straight into cool and cloudy with torrential rain, flooding, lightning, and wind that’s knocked out power and brought down trees across the state.

Rather than take my chances on Lake Lillinonah, I decided to shoot my shot and hit Huntington Pond for a two-hour bass fishing session when the weather forecast showed a slight break in the storm front.

Although luck was on my side and I didn’t get caught in the second wave of storms, I wasn’t able to find the big ones on this trip. It wasn’t completely uneventful though: I caught a few decent bass, a nice rainbow trout, and had a chance to get some practice in fishing shallow, weedy cover which is actually helpful since that’s where I struggle the most.

– Keitech 4″ Easy Shiner swimbait on a 3/0 EWG style hook
