Wind, Magdraft, & Glide Bait Action | Bass Fishing on Lake James

Father’s Day weekend sent Bob and Ray back to beautiful Lake James, North Carolina for a two-day bass fishing adventure that didn’t exactly go according to plan… but that’s fishing!

Friday evening after work, the guys launched Ol’ Red (Bob’s Bass Tracker XL) hoping to enjoy a rare evening trip and fish well into the night. The forecast called for a gentle 6 mph breeze, but Mother Nature had other ideas. With winds gusting over 15 mph, keeping the boat in position became a challenge. Even so, they managed to grind it out and put a few bass in the boat before calling it an early night, knowing they’d be back before sunrise on Father’s Day.

Sunday morning was a completely different story. The calmer conditions made fishing much more enjoyable, and both Bob and Ray connected with quality bass shortly after daylight. Bob also had some exciting close calls throwing a glide bait, with big fish following right to the boat—but he wasn’t able to close the deal!

Overall, it was a fantastic Father’s Day weekend on one of North Carolina’s most beautiful lakes, filled with good friends, great scenery, and plenty of bass fishing action.
