Kayak Fishing Seaford Goes Wrong… Then We Save the Session at Newhaven! | Bass & Blennies
What started as a kayak fishing session at Seaford quickly turned into a battle against the wind and tide!
Kev and I arrived armed with some fresh ragworm, I was hoping for a productive day on the water. I headed out on the kayak, but the conditions became increasingly choppy, and with the wind building, it simply wasn’t worth the risk of staying offshore or trying to anchor safely.
Things didn’t improve from there! Kev suffered a snapped spool on one of his reels, while I donated my lure and feather rig to the rocks beneath Seaford Head. With the odds stacked against us and the conditions only getting worse, we made the decision to relocate.
Our change of plan took us to Newhaven Harbour—and it turned out to be the right call. By scaling down our tackle and adapting to the conditions, we managed to turn the session around. I caught plenty of blennies, and best of all, Kev landed his first-ever bass!
Sometimes fishing is all about adapting, and this session is proof that a change of location and tactics can make all the difference.
