DWR Fishing Report: Summer Smallmouth Bass Fishing in Virginia
Calling all bass anglers! In this edition of the DWR Fishing Report, we’re focusing on where to catch smallmouth bass across Virginia and how to target them during the summer.
Smallmouth bass, also known as smallies or bronzebacks, are one of Virginia’s hardest-fighting freshwater fish. This report highlights where these bass “live” and how to fish for them when the weather heats up.
First, we take you behind the scenes at DWR’s Front Royal Fish Hatchery, where fisheries staff are working to raise and stock smallmouth bass for waters across the Commonwealth.
You’ll also get tips on how to catch bass in hot weather, including which lures and flies to use and the types of habitat to focus on during summer fishing.
Tune in to see who we highlight for the Catch of the Month from our DWR Angler Recognition Program.
