My Girlfriend & I Caught A GIANT Bass With This Worm | Bass Fishing BC
Bass fishing season started off pretty slow for me this year. Most of my trips were full of missed fish, tiny bass, and the classic “why do I even do this?” fishing pain LOL.
But in this video, things finally turned around.
Me and my girlfriend took the paddle board out for some midday bass fishing, and even though I expected the bite to be slow, the warm water had these bass active, shallow, and ready to eat. We ended up catching a bunch of little bass, some solid sized ones, and I even got my first proper topwater frog strike.
The biggest difference maker of the day was the Perfection Lures Dudley’s Finesse Worm in watermelon red. In pressured areas, I’ve noticed that worms with poor action or unnatural movement just don’t get nearly as many bites. But this worm had an insane fall when rigged weightless.
I rigged it a little differently by placing the EWG hook closer toward the middle of the worm instead of right at the head. That helped the worm fall slowly, flutter naturally, and move with a super lifelike action. Most of the bass hit it right on the drop.
The technique was simple:
Cast the weightless Texas rig over lily pads, weeds, and heavy cover, then let it fall into pockets where bass are hiding. If nothing hits on the first drop, slowly pull it toward another hole, pause, and let it fall again.
This was a perfect setup for fishing from the paddle board because we had mobility and didn’t need to bomb long casts. I was using a medium heavy ProFISHiency baitcaster with 20 lb braided line and a 3 foot 15 lb fluorocarbon leader. That stronger line helped a ton when pulling bass through weeds and lilies without breaking off.
My girlfriend and I both caught some nice bass (my PB 18″ largemouth on this day), plus a pile of little guys, all on finesse worms. I also tried a frog and got one of the coolest topwater strikes I’ve ever had. Lowkey… I might be addicted to topwater now.
Onwards to more fishing.
