On this episode, I get out to Collins Lake in early summer to go fishing with Johnny Mathis from Operation Reel Life Inc. Johnny is an 11 year Marine Vet who runs Operation reel Life Inc. out of Marysville, Ca.

Operation Reel Life Inc. is committed to building a strong and connected veteran fishing community throughout Northern California. Their mission is to provide fully funded fishing experiences that bring veterans together in a supportive, stress-free environment where they can connect, communicate, and rebuild camaraderie through time on the water. Johnny removes all financial barriers so that every veteran can step onto the boat with zero out-of-pocket cost and focus solely on the experience—fishing, sharing stories, and forming lasting connections with others who understand their journey. Beyond the water, he strives to grow a network where veterans can stay connected, share knowledge, support one another, and continue building relationships that extend far beyond a single trip. Through the support of sponsors, they are able to fund outings, provide gear, offer discounts and resources to those new to the sport, and expand a community that empowers veterans to engage, learn, and thrive together.
