This Bombarda Rig Caught TONS of Bass at Shannon Lake!
I stopped at Shannon Lake in Kelowna, British Columbia on the way to visit a friend competing in a bodybuilding show, and of course I had to sneak in a quick fishing trip.
Shannon Lake is a well known stocked trout lake, but it also has tons of small bass, so I decided to try something a little different: the bombarda rig.
I have used the bombarda rig a few times now with mixed results. Sometimes it is a total skunk machine, and other times it feels like an absolute cheat code. Today was one of those days.
The bass at Shannon Lake were super aggressive and could not resist a black propeller woolly bugger fished behind a 15g bombarda float. I tried switching over to a Senko worm on another rod, but the bass wanted nothing to do with it. The fly setup completely dominated.
On side note! Fishing Shannon Lake in West Kelowna, one of the most accessible urban lakes in the Okanagan. Please respect the spot, follow the regs, and don’t leave garbage.

This is the same setup that caught me some nice northern pikeminnow at Buntzen Lake, and at Shannon Lake it absolutely crushed the bass.
The retrieve was easy. Cast the bombarda rig just beyond the bass, let it sink for a few seconds, then slowly retrieve it back. A steady retrieve worked, a pulse retrieve worked, and even a simple retrieve with short pauses got bites.
This was my first time fishing Shannon Lake, and I was honestly shocked at how well the bombarda rig worked for bass. Sometimes the weird trout rig ends up being the best bass rig.
