Kayak Bass Tournament at Lake Istokpoga

I almost didn’t fish this tournament…

At the last minute, I decided to jump into the Florida Bass Nation Kayak Series tournament on Lake Istokpoga. No pre-fishing, a 4-hour overnight drive, and 20mph winds blowing straight into the north end of the lake.

With conditions stacked against me, I committed to one thing: out-grinding the competition.

I pushed into a residential creek to escape the wind and it didn’t take long to land my first fish—a 20” bass. Early on, I saw multiple big fish and thought 100” was possible… but once the sun came up, the bite completely changed.

This day turned into a true grind, but somehow I managed to put together enough fish to finish 3rd place out of 42 anglers.

This is real tournament fishing—decision making, adapting to conditions, and grinding when it matters most.
